I’m open today and tomorrow for limited flowers because of the rain ☔️

We definitely need the rain but when you get 43mm the flowers take the impact and currently very soggy! Luckily I was ahead of the game and cut before the heavens opened!

A little break 🫶🏻💐

On Sunday me and my friend revesby_southdowns made our way to Rutland Flower Show. We went because it was actually my birthday present! 💝

It was my first time to the show and as far as a new event, I thought it was great! Plenty to do and see. Great speakers which I think brought a lot of people in!

Did anybody else go to the show? It was nice to spend the day relaxing but I have to say I was more tired walking around there than a full days cutting flowers 🤣💐

Running a small business in the current climate is always risky, especially growing a product that isn’t essential 🌸 however I always constantly doubt myself on my prices even though I know, you definitely get good value with my bouquets! 💐

This image just shows you, when you spend £25 on a bouquet with me. Why I actually charge the prices I do and actually where your money is really going because as a flower grower, I don’t think people realise you pay VAT on any product I sell!

• £5 goes straight in VAT (leaving me to make a profit on the remaining £20) 💸
• seed cost (goes up every year) 🌱
• compost cost (goes up, having to learn to use peat free and swallow up that extra cost) 🪹
• Irrigation cost (purchasing petrol to run the pump which is an ever increasing cost) 💦
• Red diesel cost (to run the tractors to actually work land down) 🚜
• General farm maintenance (from putting up a new shed, getting poly tunnels covered, buying essential machinery to operate, trimming hedges etc) 🌳
• Fertiliser (a product we can’t go without and something that goes up constantly)
• General growing costs & time (planting, seed sowing, rearing the crop, inter row cultivating, irrigating) 💐
• cutting cost & time (time for actually cutting and arranging the bouquet, equipment to cut the flowers) ✂️
• Decoration (after it’s made it’s got to be wrapped in paper, ribbons, cards) 🎀
• social media (if they haven’t been pre ordered I have to try and sell via uploading on here) 📱
• minimum wage (I have to pay myself and my dad some money for doing the job) 💴
• card machine fee (if you pay via card I pay a fee or on the website) 💳
• Tax (finally after all that, I have to pay 20% tax after a threshold) 💰

That is just a reality! I’m sure lots of people understand this and it’s very very rare I get anybody complain about the price. However this post is relevant to all small businesses out there! There is a reason we charge what we do and Infact half of the time we certainly aren’t meeting that minimum wage threshold 💐

A little introduction 👋🏻 💐🌸

Over the last few weeks I’ve had a few new followers so thank you for hitting that button! With that being said I thought I would share a little bit about Hannah’s Flowers 💐

• I’ve been growing cut flowers since 2015 after diversifying from growing veggies
• I grow on 5 acres, cropping the ground multiple times a year
• I sell to wholesalers, florists and the general public.
• I offer gift bouquets, Jam Jar flowers, dried flower wreaths, Christmas wreaths, box bouquets, hanging baskets, DIY buckets, funeral flowers as well as workshops and open days!
• All the flowers I sell are British and grown from the farm. That’s my ethos which makes me seasonal (March - October)
• It’s just me and my dad! So sometimes I might not always be able to answer the phone or get back to you asap!

How to order?? (If you like what you read above 😉)💐

• Easiest way is through my website or contact my social media pages. If you call, please leave a voicemail. I can’t always answer so please leave the voicemail otherwise you won’t get a call back unfortunately because I get lots of cold calls.
• I offer collection and deliveries with 24 hour notice from March - October. (All T&C’s on the website)
• Every Friday and Saturday during the height of my season I open from 9-5 for you to pop down to the farm and grab yourself a bouquet of ready made flowers.
• Sibsey Farmers Market, first Saturday of the month!

Thank you to everybody that bought off me this last weekend!

Usually soon as the 6 weeks holidays start, trade goes quite but how wrong was I because last weekend was so busy!! With lots of bouquets being sold at home, a record 50 minute sell out Sibsey Farmers Market and more bouquet selling in the afternoon! 🤩🙏🏻🌸

Hopefully trade will stay however the lack of rain is the main problem! I will keep you updated about it but unfortunately if we don’t get any, there won’t be many flowers by end of August! 😭
