Pride began as a protest. And whilst there's so much for our LGBTQIA+ communities to celebrate, there is still a fight. And we all have to be part of that fight for people to live in peace and safety.
Pride exists because generations of LGBTQIA+ people fought for the right to live openly as themselves, and be treated equally. Those rights were not just casually handed over. They were won through organising, collective action, solidarity and sheer bravery.
This Pride Month, we celebrate how far we've come, but we also recognise how much more we have to do. Too many people still face discrimination, hate crime, homelessness and barriers to healthcare and support, all because of who they are.
We've just seen further attacks on our Trans and non-binary communities, and if we don't step up now we stand to lose even more of those hard earned rights. And that affects all of us- whether we're LGBTQIA+ or not. We all should have the joy of living in a world full of people who deserve to be able to live safely in their communities.
Happy Pride Month everyone 💪🏻🌈💕🏳️⚧️
