In May it feels like every day there is a new flower to discover in the cutting garden. Sometimes they shout and demand attention like the peony. Sometimes they quietly start blooming unconcerned whether you lift the arching leaves and find the dangling treasure like Solomon’s seal.

This might surprise you but designing farewell flowers helps me become a better wedding florist.

So much of what I try to do with flowers is capture not only personality but a moment in time and place. Providing farewell flowers gives me the privilege of doing this in a time of such high emotion. Finding ways to honour a gardener’s love of a messy wild garden or obsession with pots. Tracking down a particular scented flower or designing with a favourite colour. It pushes me to develop new mechanics so flowers can be shared after the day with family and friends in plantable posies. All of this work helping people at the saddest times informs my work helping celebrate the happiest of times. The level of care and building of trust is the same.

I’ve been wanting to visit the Tulip Festival for years and the timing never quite worked out before. This year the blooming and my Easter trip to family aligned so we got a glorious morning wandering round the beautiful gardens. It did not disappoint.
Sooo many beautiful tulips.

Now I’m trying to work out where I can fit a tulip mound in the garden
