🚗❤️ ABBEY FOREGATE IMPROVEMENTS – DAY 2!

Well, Day 2 has brought a much more noticeable change to Abbey Foregate… and we have to say, we’re loving the new diagonal parking!

The new bays are already being put to good use and are designed to accommodate more cars along this stretch, making better use of the available road space.

♿ There’s also additional Blue Badge parking, improving accessibility at the same time.

It’s great to see another part of the plans becoming reality after yesterday’s installation of the base for the new public seating area. We’re now looking forward to seeing the seating and planting taking shape too. 🌿🪑

And there’s plenty more happening in Abbey Foregate, with work also progressing on the Abbey Foregate Pocket Park beside the railway bridge – creating a new community space with seating, planting, a community garden, cycle facilities and free public WiFi. 🌳

Little by little, it’s all starting to come together! 🙌

🚧🌿 ABBEY FOREGATE IMPROVEMENTS – DAY 1!

Hmmm well… there’s not too much of a transformation to show you just yet! 😄 But the first pieces are now in place.

Today we’ve seen the base for the new public seating area installed behind Shrewsbury Abbey, along with an additional Blue Badge parking space. 👏

We’re hoping tomorrow will bring the next big changes – including the new diagonal parking bays to accommodate more cars along this stretch, as well as further progress on the new seating area. 🤞

Once complete, this part of Abbey Foregate should have:

🌿 New planting and greenery
🪑 New public seating
🚗 More parking spaces
♿ Additional Blue Badge parking
☎ Restoration of the Red Phone Box by Shrewsbury Men's Shed
🚦 A new 20mph limit

And of course, this is just one part of the improvements happening in Abbey Foregate. Work is also progressing on the Abbey Foregate Pocket Park beside the railway bridge – transforming a previously unused piece of land into a new community space with seating, planting, a community garden, cycle facilities and free public WiFi. 🌳🌸

It might not look like much on Day 1, but after a lot of talking and planning, it’s great to finally see these improvements starting to become reality!

🚧🌳 ROAD CLOSED TODAY – FOR SOME GREAT IMPROVEMENTS!

If you’re travelling through Abbey Foregate today, you’ll have spotted the road closure signs – but there’s a very good reason for them!

Work starts today on two new parklets with public seating and planting along the historic stretch behind Shrewsbury Abbey, transforming currently unused space into somewhere greener and more welcoming for everyone.

And by the end of this week, we should already be seeing a real difference! 🙌

🌿 More greenery
🪑 New places to sit, stop and enjoy Abbey Foregate
🚗 Additional parking, including angled spaces
♿ An additional Blue Badge space
🚦 A new 20mph limit to create a calmer environment

These improvements reflect what local people actually asked for. Almost 400 residents and businesses took part in last year’s Shrewsbury BID consultation, with 69% wanting more seating and 62% wanting more greenery.

And there’s more to come! The History Window is already in place, further seating outside The Crown is planned, and work is progressing on the Abbey Foregate Pocket Park beside the railway bridge – creating a new community garden, seating, cycle facilities and free public WiFi. 🌸🚲

The aim is simple: a greener, more attractive Abbey Foregate where people want to stop, meet and spend time. ❤️

⚠️ IMPORTANT: Access to properties will be maintained via a short diversion during the works and ALL ABBEY FOREGATE BUSINESSES REMAIN OPEN AS USUAL!

The Buttermarket was transformed into a fantastic fight night as Shropshire Combat Hub brought its Home Show to Shrewsbury! 🥊

An incredible atmosphere, passionate support from the crowd and some seriously impressive local talent stepping through the ropes. 💥

With Shropshire Champion titles on the line, there were plenty of hard-fought bouts, big moments and memories made along the way. 🏆

And of course, a massive thank you to everyone who packed out The Buttermarket and helped create that brilliant live boxing atmosphere! 👊🔥

Shrewsbury certainly knows how to put on a fight night! 🥊🏆

❤️ ANOTHER ABBEY FOREGATE LANDMARK IS GETTING SOME TLC!

You may have spotted that the much-loved old red telephone box in Abbey Foregate has seen better days… but hopefully not for much longer! ☎️

We're delighted that the talented team at Shrewsbury Men’s Shed Charity are getting involved, bringing their skills, craftsmanship and expertise to help restore this little piece of Abbey Foregate history back to its former glory. 👏

And this isn’t the only way they’re helping to make a difference locally.

Shrewsbury Men’s Shed are also involved in the Abbey Foregate Pocket Park, where their expertise is being put to fantastic use providing and installing the reclaimed wrought-iron fencing and gates for the community gardens, as well as the seating furniture. 🌳🌷

It’s brilliant to see traditional skills and local know-how being used on projects that will make a real, visible difference to Shrewsbury.
