👍🏼 LIKE & SHARE IF YOU AGREE! As we close in on 6,500 signatures calling for the removal of the Cycle Lane and the Floating Bus Stop, it’s time to put forward a practical, low-cost solution that could make a big difference fast — especially given Shropshire Council’s current financial pressures.

Shrewsbury MP - Julia Buckley MP - has already advised the council that additional government funding can be accessed to amend the £4.4 million gyratory scheme — particularly since emergency services were not properly consulted when the design was approved back in 2023.

The message from local people is clear:

Shrewsbury is frustrated, fed up, and wants a safer, more sensible layout.
So here’s a simple, affordable fix that could turn the situation around:

✅ Remove the floating bus stop island

✅ Remove the demountable bollards

✅ Remove the extended pavement outside the Sorting Office

➡️ Then convert the current cycle lane into a Bus & Taxi Lane — just like the one already in place on Castle Street.

This would:
🟢 Support public transport (in line with the improvements our MP is pushing forward)

🟢 Give emergency vehicles much clearer access

🟢 Reduce congestion significantly

🟢 Still allow space for a safe cycle lane on the widened pavement using the existing demountable bollards

🟢 Improve the layout for everyone — cyclists, buses, taxis, drivers, pedestrians, and the emergency services

In business, when something isn’t working, you fix it with a realistic solution — and after speaking with many local businesses, this option clearly ticks the most boxes for the most people.
