Music for the curious, built on community.

Founded in 2022, SY.Gigs is a not-for-profit social impact initiative dedicated to bringing alternative music to Shrewsbury while strengthening community connections and promoting wellbeing.

We transform historic buildings and underused spaces into vibrant, intimate stages, hosting unique alternative music concerts that introduce audiences to international and boundary-pushing artists. These gatherings are more than live music, they are safe, inclusive environments where people come together, celebrate cultural diversity, and experience the positive impact music has on mental health and community spirit.

SY.Gigs is not a charity or a registered organisation, but a socially driven initiative that relies on donations, sponsorship, and ticketing to meet costs. Coordinated by founder Chris Taylor, the endeavour is sustained by the passion of volunteers, the generosity of local businesses, and the support of a growing community of music lovers.

SY.GIGS exists as not for profit, but for people. Every event is driven by the belief that music has the power to inspire, connect, and transform lives.

Since 2022, we have welcomed artists and audiences alike into shared experiences that celebrate creativity, culture, and belonging, keeping the spirit of alternative music alive in Shrewsbury through passion, collaboration, and generosity.

We have hosted over 30 events across 3 Seasons.

Sadly we've been let down last minute (again😒) by our scheduled food trader. FEAR NOT! Rub & Dab BBQ are parking their grill out front and cooking you up a fiery feast 🔥

If you missed out last time, come and try their amazing food - there is nowhere in Shrewsbury serving up low n slow BBQ like this - it's incredible 🤤

Event 8.0 of Season 3.0 - Dec 6th at The Unitarian.

Final event of 2026.

Smaller venue and limited tickets.

Merope's roots lie deep in the soil of Lithuania's folk songs, connecting them with ideas from across the cultural map. Indrė Jurgelevičiūtė's kanklės and singing are the foundation of their celestial ambient folk reinterpretations, joined by ornate, experimental guitar and electronics from Belgian multi-instrumentalist Bert Cools, creating an intimate soundscape and guiding the duo towards the unknown.

Support comes from M.Haiux which is the musical alter ego of Liverpool based guitarist Matthew McPartlan. Utilising minimalistic finger picked guitar to create captivating melodic soundscapes loaded with emotional weight.

Occasionally I wonder whether all the anxiety and effort that goes into SY is really worth it. Then I remember how much joy I’ve had from developing and sharing music with the community. Time and again, kind and humble people open up and share their own stories. This one was a beautiful example — and made all the effort leading up to Friday feel completely worthwhile.

'Nothing is Ordinary' 🌿

Thank you to the community for joining us on Friday for what was an ethereal evening inside St Alkmund’s Church, our penultimate concert of the season with and . ✨

If a cloud made a noise, it would sound like Hinako, gentle, enveloping and utterly otherworldly. Her shimmering synths, piano and delicate voice drifted through the church like the light mist we were enveloped in.

Kit weaved a soundscape that felt like we were drifting through the Baltic Sea, catching brief glimpses of the landscape, a deep and resonant performance. 🌫️

And thanks to our true friend Rob (Innerkey), who grounded us and set the tone for the evening with a deeply emotive selection, a perfect opening chapter to a transcendent night.

Thank you to everyone who supported and joined us for another unforgettable experience, proof again that 'Nothing is Ordinary' and that Not for Profit remains the most credible format for live music ❤️.

👉 Swipe to see the highlights captured by myself, and friends David Santana and Lilly 📸. All pics will be loaded upto the sy.gigs.com website. Please take a look at these fantastic images from some very talented photographers.
