Autumn goes into November!

Seasonality is so important to me....

So let's remember that as we go into the new month, IT'S NOT CHRISTMAS yet at Botanique!

We're going to carry on enjoying this fabulous season with all the warm, delicious colours and textures.

Although, that's not to say there's prep going on behind closed doors.... 200 wreath bases are being made, not all at once, a few a day is perfect.... stock will start to arrive and the window is being planned.

But I'm not ready to launch myself into Christmas just yet!

Now's the time to plant your amaryllis bulbs.....

If you want a flowering amaryllis for Christmas now's the time to plant them.

Not sure what to do?

Here's how -

🌿 come and buy a good, fat bulb from me!
🌿 to go with your bulb you'll need some John Innes No 3, some grit, a pot or bowl that is only slightly bigger than the bulb.
🌿 the first thing you'll need to do is soak the roots of the bulb in water for about 45 mins to re-hydrate them
🌿 whilst re-hydration is taking place, mix some compost with grit, around 50/50
🌿 fill half of your pot with the compost mix and firm it down
🌿 place the hydrated bulb onto the compost, spreading out the roots
🌿 use some more compost to firm the bulb in, a third of the bulb needs to be exposed
🌿 give it a LIGHT water and place it in a cool warm place
🌿 as the foliage starts to grow rotate the pot each week so the stem grows straight
🌿 once the flower comes out keep it somewhere cool to prolong flowering life.

So in amongst your autumn pumpkin world don't forget your amaryllis! We have some lovely bulbs in stock now, come and get yours, and feel super smug knowing you're going to have beautiful flowers at Christmas!!

Let's enjoy the season we are in...
...and not have Christmas music every time we "scroll" please!

I love every part of our autumn season; the flowers, the decor, the fragrance and the chill.

So here's my plea, can we absorb ourselves into it all, live in the moment and not jump to the next thing?

Recognise anything a little familiar?

I can't tell you how delighted I was to see our old friends the 'mushroom' pots available at my wholesalers, they went straight into my basket!

And now they can go into yours!

Wow, that was a cheesy line, but you know what I mean!

But here's the warning, there isn't many, there is something about these pots, they appear and disappear quickly. But I guess that's what keeps them special 🤍

The small is £95 and large bowl shape is £135. Get yours before they've gone again!

Who's feeling the chill?

I try my best not to wear my boots too early, but the autumn mist made me reach for mine this morning.

I'm also reaching for the autumn home decor too, again, I feel it's early, but the weather is telling me different!

So it's earthy tones, textural heaven, a pop of orange and boots on!

Those autumn vibes are a coming!

New stock is starting to land, the rich delicious colours of autumn, and I love them!

And as a new big delivery is arriving in the coming weeks we need to create some space.

So we've a sale area and some of the larger pieces have red tags with discounts on.

So if you've been eyeing up a favourite pot or vase for a while now's the time to pop in!

And the weekend is almost here, so put Botanique on your list of shops to call into :)

Looking after your plants and understanding the jargon on those labels....

INDIRECT LIGHT - most plants enjoy indirect light, this means your plant doesn't want to be in the 12-3 hot sun. It'll burn its foliage and you'll never keep up with watering.

North facing generally means a plant can be in a window space.

East and West facing, you'll want your plant a little into the room.

South facing, let's keep your plants much further into the room!

WATER WHEH THE TOP TWO INCHES IS DRY - do you really want to be poking your finger into the soil to see if it needs watering?!

I'd recommend 'watering from the bottom'. This means you fill a dish, bowl or horticulture tray with water, and stand your plant in it for a couple of hours.

This is because the roots that take up the water are towards the bottom of the pot, and they'll not only take up what they need, the water is firstly hydrating those growing roots, then upwards to the foliage.

I'd recommend you add some organic plant food to the water too. From April to October.

Of course, I'm known for helping you understand your plant and what's best for it, so you know you'll have a head start on any plant you buy from me!

And whilst it's this hot, please mist your plants, buy the biggest mister you can find and drench them, away from any sunlight!
