🎀 It all began with a pretty little teacup...

Getting married in my parents back garden in 2010 called for something a little different. We didn't want formal, we craved laughter, sunshine and delicate clinking of tea cups (filled with G & T's of course).

Back then, vintage afternoon tea's really wasn't a 'thing' so I decided to do it myself. My little vintage afternoon tea catering company was born and soon blossomed into a beloved brand known for its whimsical vintage afternoon teas. From weddings under blossom trees to fancy product launches for big brands we were bussssyyyyyy. Our style was; antique china with stories to tell, cakes that looked like art, and food that tasted like memories, always served with a touch of whimsy and covered in edible flowers.

To us, afternoon tea isn't just a 'meal', it's a moment. A pause. A celebration of beauty, flavour, friends and old style loveliness.

A stylish and charming venue with a relaxed and friendly vibe.

+ This is a really great place. It is a beautiful building, furnished with imagination and character, with a really lovely garden. The whole place has a bohemian charm, wrapped up in Georgian splendour. But it is the people that make it so special. Maryanne is the consummate hostess - attentive yet discreet, friendly and professional, and brimming with enthusiasm. Nothing was too much trouble. The breakfasts were lovely and the details everywhere were fantastic. Bowlish House will not disappoint.

+ This is an incredible venue, with an incredible, charming, friendly host. Thank you Maryanne for everything - you exceeded our expectations and made our Glasto weekend simply, perfect. Your house is stunning, extremely clean, very comfortable, full of character and full to the brim of those little details which can only put a smile on your face. Everything about our 3 nights stay at Bowlish House was perfect, from the moment we arrived until departure - we didn't want to leave!! Your breakfast was also incredible and more than perfect to set us up for a great day ahead, including the bottle of pink fizz which was always on ice and the wonderful company (other guests) around the breakfast table. The gardens of Bowlish are gorgeous, with potted flowers everywhere (big thanks to your dad!), the beds were amazingly comfy, the showers super hot. I could note rate this accommodation high enough and will probably never find anywhere like it again. My family and I will 100% be back. You are a super special host and should be very proud of yourself. Thank you for everything, we will see you again soon 🙂

Wow... What a WILD first year it's been!

Spring 2024, we took a leap into the unknown. Bowlish House stood quiet, tired, and a little lost. So were we, truth be told. There were tears (many), doubts (many more), and moments where we asked ourselves, what have we done? Really, WHAT HAVE WE DONE!? We had invested our life savings into purchasing the leasehold of Bowlish and now the freehold - soon to be ours completely, honoured custodial's of a very special piece of historic architecture.

Love is a patient thing... Brick by brick, breath by breath, she began to breathe again, gently she began to wake up. A year on, and the house has a heartbeat. Warm light fills the windows now, laughter and little sausage dog barks echo through the hallways. The cracks still show (both in the walls and in us) but the the love is louder. Sheer exhaustion, paint-stained hands and tired smiles have become our daily rhythm. She’s no longer just surviving, she’s beginning to thrive, as are we.

From our first B & B guest to our first wedding booking, from the chaos of opening weekends to the quiet satisfaction of early morning sun through the sash windows, every step has been a learning curve - we have learnt so much and made many mistakes but it's been a challenge, and a joy.

Thank you to every guest, every friend, every kind soul who believed in this dream with us. Bowlish House has blossomed, she's found a whole vibe of her own; Rococco luxury with chippy paint is what we like to call it. She stands proud with a little more sparkle, a lot more soul, and most importantly, heart.

We've poured ourselves into every room, every corner, and every little creaky floorboard and while there's still so much more to do, we're finally beginning to see the house become what we always hoped it could be: a true home, not just for us, but for every guest who walks through the door. Bowlish House is becoming what it was always meant to be: A place to gather, to rest, to celebrate, to feel at home.

To everyone who supported us, visited us, encouraged us, thank you. Most importantly to my beautiful parents who have never faltered in their support & belief in us both emotionally and physically. You’ve all helped give this grand old house a new beginning.

Here’s to year two, may it be a little less terrifying, and a lot more magical! Cheers to what comes next... 🥂
