But I do like busy, as much as I'm tired.
I didn't get to capture much, because I was in work mode. One of these days I'm going to set up a documentary for me and peers, showing you a proper look behind the scenes

How do you manage your calendar 📆

As a freelancer it’s pretty important that I have a proper grasp on it, and stay organised. Here’s a simple thing I do and have done for years.

I forgot to mention that when something pencilled then confirms, I simply reallocate it and it changes colour on my calendar

One thing I tell people all the time is that I'm a bit of a venue geek. We played in a variety of theatres, old and new, big and small with various backstage facilities on this 2021 tour. I've enjoyed seeing what different locations have to offer.

GRATITUDE IS A MUST

Over the last few months I've been Tour Manager for the show RUSH A Joyous Jamaican Journey. Last night was the final 2021 show with RUSH Theatre Company and it was a sold out show at Wolverhampton Grand

This band and crew have been a pleasure to manage, but also the show is close to home celebrating Jamaica, The Windrush Generation and the music and contributions they brought to England (and the world)

The Director & Producer for the show wanted to get up all the crew for the final encore. When he said it a couple weeks ago I was like nah i'm good, but he eventually convinced me. Seen as I knew it was going to happen I brought clothes to look a little presentable😄. It's definitely not usual proceedings to be on stage, I happily stay backstage in my blacks, keeping a low profile.

Without crew a show really does not go ahead. If I could have got our FOH and Lighting Tech up too I would have (but they kind of had to be on their desks)

Fun Fact: On some of the shows I dept one of the Background Vocalists when they unexpectedly couldn't be there. But I was unseen singing from the wings, I was literally a secret BV. Hey the show must go on. Hence being handed a mic last night, but this time on stage so everyone now knows I sing haha🤦🏽‍♀️😄

This happened, it actually happened 🎪

Stages, Music, Fields of people and even good weather☀️ (no rain, some clouds but still warm, and yesterday was a beautiful sunny day to end on)

Honestly a few months ago I was dubious about any festivals happening this summer, so to see Tramlines and so many others take place has made me so happy. We were WORKING 😭 I don't think a lot of people understand what that means, but for the teams behind the scenes, and also many bands & crew this was the first festival since 2019. That's mad long.

I managed to stop myself shedding a actual tear of joy, but I was close.

SUN + GOOD NEWS = 😁

The little sun we've been having really lifted my mood (it always does). I have more so loved seeing so many festivals and events post to let everyone know they plan to go ahead.

The positive mood and the general buzz in the event world has been so nice. Obviously we know nothing is 100% certain, but let us have this glimmer that's putting a smile on our face for the first time in nearly a year.

P.s I really do love driving these things, promise I don't do the job just to drive them. We called this one the limo, because look, it's huge.

I wanted to share some of my personal experience. As everyone should now know the event industry has gone on a pause for an unknown amount of time, along with many other industries that rely on people being in the same place. You can probably imagine what that has been like for those of us who work full time in these industries.

It's interesting I post this during the theme is kindness and O my goodness, I really have had to be kind to myself in the last couple months. I've had times where I've felt like I'd actually failed at life, then I remember Dani this is a world wide pandemic, it's not you.

I don't share this as a woe is me, I hope it can actually help someone else who has been going through it lately. Do share if you think it will help someone.

Happy to report that so far I haven't lost my mind, and don't plan to.

After near melting down at the start of the week, I've now come to a place where I'm able to pause. Only thing not pausing is these bills, but anyway.

I've personally decided I'm going to give time to all the things I just never found time to do, because the world kept spinning. I'll be digging up content from the archives, some may be useful, other things random, but you're going to see it anyway😄. I'll read, declutter (this will officially be the biggest spring clean ever), I have some sermon series to catch up on (shout out Pastor Mike Todd). I'm also going to tap into some of my other creative sides, may paint again, pick my bass back up, do graphic design and video edits, spend time creating in the kitchen too. I'll do all this whilst planning for the biggest comeback ever.

A friend in the industry checked in with me today and it honestly meant a lot. See how others are doing. We may be doing social distancing but we still have the internet folks. There are also people on their own right now that need others more than ever.

BEYOND HAIR 2020

On Saturday we did this amazing event in Birmingham, an event designed to inspire others to level up. These two ladies have been so great to work with. Their vision, goals, drive, ambition and genuinely beautiful spirit made it so easy for me to be part of their team.
