🚨 MY PARKING MOTION PASSED UNANIMOUSLY

A big result at Dover District Council tonight.

Our petition signed by 1,901 validated residents, councillors unanimously backed my motion to send the Parking Strategy to Overview & Scrutiny for a full evidence-led review.

That means we can now properly examine:

👉 parking income and usage
👉 the 3-hour limits
👉 maximum-stay restrictions across the district
👉 the impact on residents, visitors and businesses
👉 whether changes should now be recommended to Cabinet

What makes tonight particularly significant is that despite the petition itself not having the backing of Sandwich Town Council, the strength of feeling from residents and business won through.

1,901 residents made sure this could not simply be brushed aside, along with the many local businesses who displayed posters, shared their experiences and backed the call for another look.

Huge thanks to everyone for signing the petition and to Harry Sampson for speaking on behalf of residents and businesses tonight.

This isn’t the end of the process.

Now we get the evidence on the table and properly scrutinise whether this Parking Strategy is working for our towns.

The countdown is officially on for this year’s Sandwich Folk & Ale Festival, bringing live music, community spirit, and great local ale to the town across the weekend! 🙌🌾

What a wonderful job Warren did yesterday representing the Sandwich Branch of the Royal British Legion for the celebration of 800 years of Mayors!

Local community groups across Dover District can now apply for funding through Dover District Council’s Community Grants Scheme, which opens today.

A total of £50,000 is available in this summer funding round, with grants of between £100 and £2,500 available for projects that bring a clear benefit to local residents.

The deadline for applications is 12 noon on Tuesday 26 May 2026.

These grants can be a really useful source of support for local charities, voluntary groups, clubs and community organisations delivering positive work in our towns and villages. A further £50,000 is also expected to be made available in a winter funding round later in the year.
