A further challenge for florists!

Today, new border controls come into place for a range of cut flowers including carnations and chrysanthemums.

These checks are a direct result of Brexit. They require a visual inspection of flowers by wholesalers and additional paperwork to be completed.

We have not needed these checks for 30 yearsā€¦..they are futile and purely bureaucratic.

Understandably, wholesalers are increasing their prices to UK customers due to the cost of implementing these changes. In turn , UK florists will have no choice but to increase their prices.

As mentioned in previous postsā€¦. the struggle for florists is very real right now. Even before these new changes, the price of flowers had tripled as a consequence of Brexit & Covid.

Please keep this in mind whenever you consider ordering or purchasing flowers from a florist. The majority of independent florists are not over charging or being greedyā€¦..

In a-lot of cases they are struggling to make ends meet in an environment where costs are continuing to rise but clients and customers want to spend much less.

There is a worrying trend in floristry at the moment of floristry businesses being owned and run by people with no floristry experience or interest.

Often this translates to poor flower buying, the use of lower grade ingredients and less focus being placed on the quality of floristry design.

At Supernature Floristry Design we value passion, knowledge and skill.

We view floristry as an art form and believe that clients paying for our service should receive only the best quality of ingredients and design.

We passionately believe that it is time for florists to find a way to reclaim their art form.
