While in Riyadh for the WiMENA Game Changers event, our founders Laura and Tara were honoured with an invitation to attend the Saudi Cup Meet - thanks to Sophie Able. And what an experience it turned out to be.

Set against the incredible backdrop of King Abdulaziz Racecourse, the Saudi Cup is not just one of the most prestigious horse racing events in the world but also the richest. The meet, which includes one race with 20 million dollar purse, continues to attract the very best talent from across the global racing community and shines an increasingly important spotlight on the role of women within the sport.

For Laura, the evening became even more memorable when she quite literally bumped into one of her sporting heroes, Hollie Doyle.

Hollie is widely regarded as one of the most successful female jockeys in British racing history. In 2019 she broke the record for the most winners ridden by a female jockey in a single year in Britain with 116 wins, and in 2020 she became the first female jockey to ride five winners on a single British racecard. That same year she was crowned Sunday Times Sportswoman of the Year and went on to be awarded an OBE in 2021 for services to horseracing.

A huge thank you to Bennett, Leanne Arnold and Charlotte Austwick for opening and closing the day with such insight.

It was inspiring to hear Nicola reflect on her first ever visit to Saudi Arabia. The experience clearly meant a great deal to her, and she spoke openly about what she learned and how much she valued the exchange.

That is what makes WiMENA special. It is not one directional. It is not about one group teaching another. It is a genuine two way relationship where all women grow, learn and expand their perspective together.

Our Sporting Role Models Panel was an incredible and deeply honest conversation about what it really takes to step into sport and stay there.

We heard how each panellist first found their way in, the barriers they faced, and the immense pride and joy that sport has brought into their lives. From building discipline, improving organisation and resilience to making their families proud, the impact went far beyond competition.

Hanna Riehle shared the moment she saw the call to sign up for the first women’s rally in Saudi Arabia. She texted a friend almost on impulse and that single message set everything in motion. A simple decision that became part of history. It was such a powerful reminder that sometimes change starts with saying yes.

Kariman Abuljadayel spoke movingly about her ambition to represent Saudi Arabia at the Olympics and the very real challenges she faced along the way. At one point she could not even find a sporting hijab that would allow her to compete comfortably. Today the world, the industry and sport itself are evolving. Innovation, visibility and inclusion are shifting what is possible for female athletes everywhere.

A standout moment was also hearing from Ameera Marghalani and seeing the Saudi women’s rugby team who joined us in the room. Just a few years ago the sport did not exist for women in the Kingdom. Now it is growing fast, supported by strong male allies including SURJ Sports Investment and the Saudi Arabian Rugby Federation. Progress like this does not happen alone.

This panel was about courage, ambition and momentum. And it was a reminder that sport does not just change individuals. It changes society.

Our first panel at the Game Changers event in Riyadh, Breaking Boundaries, set the tone for the day.

Moderated by Kate Burton, the conversation explored the rapidly growing opportunities across the Middle East not just for athletes, but for women who want to build careers across the entire sporting ecosystem. From governance to marketing, investment to performance, the landscape is expanding and the doors are opening wider than ever before.

What made this panel so powerful was the honesty around personal journeys. Each speaker shared how they found their place within the broader sport ecosystem, what inspired them, and how the region is creating space for women to step into leadership roles that simply did not exist at scale a decade ago.

The message was clear. The opportunities are real. They are growing. And women are stepping into them with confidence and ambition.
