This Friday I’m back at The Magic Circle in London, performing as one of the magicians in their Close-Up Show.

If you’ve never visited The Magic Circle before, it’s a brilliant evening out. You’ll experience incredible close-up magic just inches from your eyes, explore the unique atmosphere of the world’s most famous magic society, and hopefully leave wondering, “How on earth did they do that?”

Three magicians. One pub garden. Zero plans.

Two hours later we were entertaining half the beer garden.

A few days ago, three magicians sat down in a Manchester in The Waggon Inn garden area to practise some magic. That was the plan anyway.

A couple of nearby tables became curious... Then a few more.

Before long we were entertaining complete strangers for the best part of two hours.

One of the things I love about live magic is how quickly it can bring people into the moment. Complete strangers become part of the experience.

A big thank you to everyone who stopped by, watched, laughed and joined in.

I enjoyed a lovely evening performing alongside fellow magicians Peter and Tony at Lady Captain Joanne Edwards’ special event at Ashton-under-Lyne Golf Club.

Joanne was kind enough to say afterwards:

If you’ve never been to one of these evenings before, it’s very different to a large stage magic show. Small groups. Close-up performances. Amazing magicians just inches away from you.

You’ll see sleight of hand, mind reading, impossible moments and a lot of laughter too.

The atmosphere is always relaxed and friendly, whether you already love magic or are simply curious to experience something unusual for the first time.

It’s a great opportunity for couples to meet a wide range of suppliers in one place and start thinking about how they want their day to feel, not just how it looks.

Lately I’ve been thinking about why some events just feel better than others.

It’s rarely the big moments. More often it’s a small group, a shared reaction, a bit of laughter that turns into conversation.

That’s what I love about close-up magic when it’s done well. Not as a performance, but as part of the atmosphere.

I’ve written a short piece on my website about this, for anyone planning an event this spring or summer and wondering how to get people properly connecting.
