It wisnae me....
SELKIRK, SCOTLAND â What began as a heart-warming tale of community, commitment, and efficient bulk wedding planning took an unexpected genealogical turn this week when Selkirkâs beloved McDonald brothers and the equally beloved Rose sisters discovered they are, in fact, the same six people.
The tripletsâCallum, Ewan, and Fraser McDonaldâwho married Gala tripletsâMaisie, Isla, and Rowan Roseâin a three-couple ceremony last summer, confirmed on Tuesday that they are sextuplets separated at birth, reunited decades later by fate, love, and the Bordersâ famously relaxed approach to paperwork.
âThe clues were always there,â said local historian and part-time bingo caller Morag Hume, gesturing vaguely at a corkboard now crowded with red string. âSame birthdays. Same dimples. Same habit of arguing with themselves in shops. We just thought that was courtship.â
The discovery reportedly came after a casual pub conversation in which someone noted that all six shared not only a birthday, but also the same hospital bracelet font, blood type, and an identical childhood memory of a nurse calling them âNumber Four.â
âWhen youâre in Selkirk, you donât question these things,â said one local, nursing a pint. âMost of the world would be disgusted. Round here, the real shock is they only found out after they tied the knot.â
The original ceremonyâhailed at the time as âromantic,â âefficient,â and âvery Bordersââfeatured a single officiant, one set of vows photocopied six times, and a reception buffet described by guests as âambitious.â No one present recalls raising concerns.
âWe assumed it was just the Borders doing what the Borders does,â said another resident. âTriplets marry triplets? Saves on invitations.â
The couplesânow reportedly holding an emergency family meeting to determine what exactly to call one anotherâreleased a joint statement acknowledging the surprise while praising the community for its support.
âAt the end of the day,â the statement read, âweâre still six people who love Selkirk, love each other, and share a birthday cake.â
Local officials confirmed that no records will be changed until someone finds the correct form, adding that the anniversary will proceed as planned.
âHonestly,â said the town provost, shrugging, âif this is the strangest thing that happens in Selkirk this year, weâll count ourselves lucky.â
