The music quiz is back THIS Sunday!!!!!
We should have 5 teams so we are go for launch tomorrow!

As usual I will hand you over to my digital assistant for a roasting review of the last quiz.
I feel this is a very light roasting this week, don't get used to it! 😅
.............

Another week, another packed house at the music quiz with a full complement of 7 teams battling it out through an evening of audio torture, questionable singing and wild stabs in the dark disguised as educated guesses.

Taking top spot once again were Right At The Back, with Chris and Sid posting a mighty 385 points. However, this wasn't the usual procession to victory we've become accustomed to. For the first time in what feels like forever, somebody actually made them work for it!

The returning Black Lace, led by the legendary Big Jim, stormed into second place with 374 points, finishing just 11 points behind. Had they been away much longer they might have forgotten where the venue was entirely, but thankfully they remembered enough songs to give the champions a genuine scare. Rumours that Chris and Sid spent the final round nervously checking the scoreboard cannot be confirmed... but also cannot be ruled out.

Third place went to Penfold's Crew on an impressive 360 points. Even more remarkably, they managed that score with only around 80% attendance. It's becoming increasingly clear that Penfold's Crew have discovered the secret of quiz success: simply leave some of the team at home.

Fourth place belonged to Vinyl Hopefuls on 333 points. Back to full strength with six players present, they delivered a solid performance and later walked away with the bottle of wine after being closest in the jackpot draw. Not quite the jackpot, but enough to dull the pain of missing out on the podium.

Fifth place went to The Muppets with 291 points. A full squad of nine players assembled and, perhaps most importantly, they have now managed two consecutive weeks without finishing last. Baby steps, but steps nonetheless. Historians will point to this period as "The Great Muppets Revival".

Sixth place saw Team Maddix score 252 points. With star player younger Maddix Steve absent, the remaining trio of Mum, Dad and even younger brother Calvin were left trying to hold the fort. Sadly the fort appeared to have been constructed from damp cardboard and held together with blu-tack. Still, they avoided the wooden spoon, which is about as much as can be asked under such difficult circumstances.

That left Band On The Run in seventh place on 208 points. However, before anyone gets too comfortable laughing, this was actually an improvement on their previous effort by a whole 3 points. Progress is progress. It was fantastic to see them return for another week because most new teams disappear after experiencing the unique combination of confusion, humiliation and obscure music knowledge that our quiz provides. The fact they've come back suggests either tremendous resilience or a complete misunderstanding of what's happening.

The jackpot draw took place but once again nobody managed to land the winning number. Vinyl Hopefuls came closest and took home the wine, proving that sometimes second chances are better served in a bottle.

A brilliant turnout, a close battle at the top, and the return of some familiar faces made for another cracking evening.

We go again tomorrow. Will Right At The Back make it another victory? Will Black Lace complete the comeback? Will The Muppets continue their miraculous rise up the table? And will Band On The Run eventually reach the dizzy heights of 209 points?

Only one way to find out...

This week the joker rounds will be 60s, 80s and 2000s.

The featured artist as chosen by Right at the back (who unfortunately won't be there) is 'The Move'

Band on the run - I am happy for you to pick some featured artists. You need to think of three artists/groups who have had at least 10 u.k charting songs. (We have done a lot already so I'll let you know if you chose any duplicates)

Jackpot goes unclaimed and now clears £170 💰💰💰

Please arrive as early as possible, if we're all in and ready before 8.30pm I'm more than happy to start early plus we don't swamp the bar staff by all turning up at 8.25pm 😉

This is the last quiz for 3 weeks don't forget, the next one after this will be 28th June!

I'll see you all tomorrow for another easy quiz 😉

The music quiz returns this Sunday!!!!

Last week we welcomed new team 'Band on the run' and hope to see them back this week for hopefully a slightly easier quiz 🙈

As always then I'll hand you over to my digital assistant for a brutal roasting summary of the last quiz!
..........

For the SECOND week running there was no sign of Big Jim and the rest of Black Lace. At this point people are beginning to suspect they’ve either split up creatively or Jim is still emotionally recovering from getting a Tina Turner intro wrong three Sundays ago. The dancefloor legends remain missing in action.
Still, six teams took part thanks to the arrival of a NEW TEAM — Band on the Run — brave enough to walk unknowingly into one of the hardest music quizzes of the year. Imagine entering your first pub quiz expecting a bit of Sweet Caroline and Oasis… only to get assaulted by obscure synth intros, one-hit wonders from 1987 and a dodgy hand-out round. Character building stuff.

At the top as always were Chris and Sid from Right at the Back, who absolutely steamrollered the field with 383 points — a ridiculous SIXTY THREE points clear of everyone else. At this stage it’s less a quiz team and more two men conducting an audio-based dictatorship. You could probably play them a kazoo version of a Lithuanian Eurovision entry backwards and they’d still name the artist, album, producer and UK chart position.
Second place went to Penfolds Crew on 320 despite being a few members down. A strong effort considering they were apparently operating with fewer members than an early-2000s boyband after the “creative differences” started. Still comfortably clear of the pack and probably still muttering “we’d have had them if Dave was here for the reggae round.”
Third place and back on the podium: TEAM MADDIX with 309 points. A huge return to form after recent weeks drifting around mid-table like a forgotten support act at a county festival. Consistent, solid, and most importantly — not embarrassing yourselves. Progress.
Now onto the evening’s biggest shock…
THE MUPPETS FINISHED FOURTH.
Yes. The Muppets.
The team that normally reacts to music intros like cavemen discovering fire somehow landed 277 points. There were scenes of confusion across the venue as they correctly identified songs BEFORE the chorus. Statisticians are still trying to determine whether this was a genuine turnaround or whether Animal accidentally consumed a music encyclopaedia. Either way, a strong showing from a team previously held together entirely by vibes and panic.
Vinyl Hopefuls meanwhile were depleted from six players down to four but still battled to 242 points. A respectable effort considering they were effectively trying to fight a musical war with half the army missing. Still plenty of vinyl knowledge there — just not enough bodies to shout “IT’S STEELY DAN!” over each other this week.
And finally, a friendly nod to new team Band on the Run, who scored 205 points in what was genuinely one of the toughest audio quizzes yet. Breaking the 200 barrier on debut is no joke — especially when half the room looked traumatised after round three. They stuck with it, didn’t walk out during the bits & pieces round, and earned themselves a cash-prize qualifying score. Respect.
BUT THEN… absolute chaos arrived with the prize draw.
The first ÂŁ300 giveaway number pulled out?
308.
Team Maddix score?
309.
After what feels like several decades of near misses, Team Maddix FINALLY got their hands on the cash. Cue celebrations, suspicious grinning and immediate accusations from rival teams that the draw was “fixed.”
Then came the wine draw…
Number pulled out: 309.
Exactly Team Maddix’s score AGAIN.
At this point even the quizmaster was probably checking the envelopes for hidden magnets. But in a surprisingly wholesome twist, Team Maddix handed the wine to the new team, proving that beneath the competitive exterior there is at least some humanity left. Or possibly they just didn’t fancy carrying wine and £300 home at the same time.
A huge welcome to Band on the Run — hopefully they return this Sunday for another evening of musical trauma, wildly overconfident answer sheets and Chris and Sid continuing their campaign to personally bankrupt the prize fund.

Joker rounds this week will be 70s, 90s and 2010s!

The featured artist as chosen by Penfolds crew will be The Beach Boys!

Well done to team Maddix who scooped up our second £300 jackpot meaning we go back to a 1 ticket draw with an exact match or two numbers either side to win! The third jackpot currently sits at £145 💰💰💰

Please arrive in good time so we can start at 8.30pm and thank you for not talking through the reading of the answers 🙏

The music quiz returns this Sunday!

Five teams last quiz so I'll pass you over to my digital assistant for a roasting summary! ...............

Only 5 teams this week as big Jim and the rest of ‘Black Lace’ were away. Rumours suggested they were scouting for new players after recent performances but we’ll leave that there…

With the heavyweights missing, Chris and Sid from ‘Right At The Back’ smelled blood immediately and absolutely steamrolled the field with 344 points — winning by 43. At this stage they’re less a quiz team and more a deeply upsetting administrative error. Somebody check their buzzer batteries because this is getting ridiculous now.

Second place went to ‘Vinyl Hopefuls’ on 301 who once again proved that owning 4,000 records and never throwing anything away eventually becomes useful. A strong score and, importantly, enough to keep ‘Penfolds Crew’ behind them which is always worth celebrating.

‘Penfolds Crew’ finished third on 298 with their usual squad size somewhere between “quiz team” and “stag do.” They were VERY keen to point out that ‘The Muppets’ also had 8 players this week… which is true, but unfortunately when both teams fail to break 300 it doesn’t really scream “superteam,” does it? More “community outreach project.”

Fourth place went to ‘Team Maddix’ on 290 — only 8 points behind Penfolds Crew despite having fewer players, less noise and significantly less pointless discussions lasting 4 minutes before writing down the wrong answer anyway. A solid performance ruined only by the scoreboard.

And finally ‘The Muppets’ on 272. Not miles away this week to be fair, although with 8 players you’d expect at least one of them to have accidentally known something useful. Still, they had the last laugh after scooping the wine raffle. Proof that sometimes in life you don’t need intelligence… just alcohol.

The ÂŁ300 jackpot survives AGAIN which is becoming slightly embarrassing for everyone involved. At this point the jackpot has better attendance than Black Lace.

Joker rounds this week are 60s, 80s and 2000s with a featured artist of The Human league as chosen by the muppets.

Please arrive for a prompt start and thank you for pausing chat whilst the answers are read out 🙏

See you all on Sunday!

QUIZ NIGHT ROAST – THE USUAL SUSPECTS EDITION
All 6 teams in attendance which can only mean one thing… another weekly masterclass from Chris and Sid of “Right at the Back”. At this point they’re not even a quiz team, they’re basically a travelling pub-based knowledge consultancy. 370 points… honestly just rename the trophy now and save everyone the effort.
And just to really rub it in—they didn’t just win the quiz, they cleared out the jackpot as well. £300… again. Second time in 3.5 years. Some people bring pens to a quiz… these two bring a direct debit mandate.
2nd Place – Penfolds Crew (345 points)
Ah yes, Penfolds Crew… or as they’re now known, “Penfolds & Co Solicitors, Witnesses, and Extended Family”. That wasn’t a team, that was a census. Strong score though—fair play. Not enough to beat the quiz terminators at the back, but enough to remind everyone that quantity sometimes does have a quality of its own.
3rd Place – Vinyl Hopefuls (321 points)
Sneaking onto the podium like they’ve just found a bonus round no one else saw. Solid performance, quietly going about their business while the usual chaos unfolded elsewhere. No drama, no excuses… just points on the board. Suspiciously professional.
4th Place – Black Lace (306 points)
Oh dear… what happened here then? No Big Jim, no podium. Coincidence? Absolutely not. Turns out Big Jim isn’t just part of the team—he is the team. Without him, Black Lace dropped faster than their namesake at a wedding disco. Barely scraping 300… I’ve seen stronger performances from the fruit machine.
5th Place – Team Maddix (291 points)
Rumours of “ringers” being lined up next week… good. Because based on this performance, you might also want to line up some answers. 291 points—respectable in a “we turned up and tried our best” kind of way. But let’s be honest, if reinforcements don’t arrive soon, you’ll need more than ringers… you’ll need VAR.
6th Place – The Muppets (249 points)
And right on cue… The Muppets. Bringing consistency to the bottom of the table week after week. At this point it’s not even disappointing—it’s tradition. 249 points… I’m not saying they struggled, but I’m pretty sure one of their answers was “pass” to a multiple choice question.

THE DRAW 🎟️
Now THIS is where things got interesting. After what feels like several geological eras… the jackpot finally went. 4th ticket out of 5… and who takes it? Of course… Chris and Sid. Again. Honestly, just start handing them the money when they walk in and save us all the suspense.
Good news though—the jackpot resets and we’re already back up to £300 with another one building behind it. So don’t worry everyone… there’s still hope. Unless you’re sat at the back. Then there’s no hope at all.
WINE WINNER 🍷
No idea who won it… don’t care… drink it, forget this evening ever happened (especially if you’re Black Lace).
Same time next week… where we’ll see if:
Black Lace can function without Big Jim
Team Maddix actually signs these “mystery ringers”
Penfolds Crew bring even more relatives
And whether anyone—anyone—can stop the quiz juggernaut at the back
Spoiler: probably not 😏

Joker rounds this week will be 70s, 90s and 2010's.

The featured artist chosen By Jim Rowney much to Carl Painter disgust as Jim isn't here this week will be Avicii!

Bank holiday on Monday so let's all have a drink and bring all of your family and friends along!

Start time 8.30pm, please arrive early as the bar is busy when everyone turns up at 8.20pm 😉
The usual reminder for hush during the reading of the answers please, I don't recall anyone talking through the answers when Jason was in charge and it's really off-putting 🤫 (sorry to moan)

See you all on Sunday where someone may win another ÂŁ300!

The music quiz is back this Sunday!!!

No 'Right at the back' last week so someone else tried their luck! I'll let my digital assistant fill you in with the summary and highlights......

So Team Maddix… back-to-back second places and still no cash? That’s not form, that’s a personality trait now. You’re basically the quiz equivalent of a nearly man—always there, never quite sealing it. If there were medals for “consistently just not good enough,” you’d need a bigger shelf.
And drawing with Penfolds Crew on 279 just makes it worse. Not only did you not win, you dragged someone else down with you. That’s not a result, that’s a mutual disappointment pact.

Meanwhile Big Jim and Black Lace roll back in after who knows how long and casually drop a 319 like they’ve just been waiting for you lot to get comfortable before reminding everyone who’s boss. That’s not a win—that’s a statement. They didn’t win the quiz, they repossessed it.
Vinyl Hopefuls missing out by 4 points… that’s the kind of margin where one bloke confidently shouts a wrong answer and everyone else quietly resents him for the rest of the night.

Then we’ve got The Muppets in fourth on 236—which honestly feels like accurate branding. Respect for living up to the name.

And Dumb and Dumber… 228 after making a special guest appearance? Travelling back just to finish last is commitment. That’s not a quiz night, that’s a humiliation tour.

Now the jackpot… £300 and still no winner after FOUR numbers drawn? At this point it’s not a prize, it’s a myth. People are going to start telling new teams about it like folklore. “Some say if you score within 5 points… you’ll win the money.” Absolute nonsense, clearly.
And the wine… “one was definitely given out” said Jon — incredible level of record keeping. Proper professional operation you’ve got there. Someone’s gone home with a bottle and even the organisers are like “yeah probably happened.”
Overall summary:
You’re consistent… at not winning
The winners came back and embarrassed everyone
The jackpot is basically a scam at this point
No one knows who won anything except pride (and even that’s debatable)
Same time tomorrow for another heroic second place?
😄

Joker rounds tomorrow will be 60s, 80s and 2000s with a featured artist of Bob Dylan as chosen by Jim Finney

I will draw 5 x numbers every week with a match or 5 numbers either side taking the money, it HAS to go surely!?

Please arrive as early as possible so we can ideally start at 8.30pm and as always if we can pause any discussions during the reading of the answers i'd really appreciate it 🙏

The music quiz returns this Sunday!!!!

Last time out was interesting without the 'big hitters', so I'll let my digital assistant remind you what happened with your weekly roasting.....

With the usual brain trust mysteriously absent — yes, both Right at the Back and Black Lace nowhere to be seen — the rest of the field were handed a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity… and somehow still made hard work of it.
Four teams. No heavyweights. A completely open field.
And yet… chaos.
Taking full advantage of the intellectual vacuum were Penfolds Crew, who turned up in what can only be described as illegal squad depth. At this point it’s less a quiz team and more a small village. They steamrolled to victory with 344 points, finishing a ridiculous 61 points clear — which in quiz terms is less “win” and more “public execution.” Fair play… when you bring enough people, eventually a few of them will know something.
In second place, doing their best impression of “how have we got away with this again?” were Team Maddix on 283. Back-to-back second places now, which is honestly impressive considering it still feels like half the answers are arrived at via vibes, guesswork, and blind optimism. Consistency is key… even if it’s consistently suspicious.
Third place went to Vinyl Hopefuls on 274, who lived up to their name perfectly — full of hope, but ultimately stuck in the past and just missing the mark. Close… but not quite close enough to matter.
And then, of course, we have The Muppets. Bringing up the rear as tradition demands on 272 — but WAIT… only 2 points behind third. Progress? Maybe. A turning point? Absolutely not. Let’s not get carried away — it’s still last place, just with a slightly less embarrassing margin.
Now… the jackpot.
After last week’s failure, you were generously given an even bigger safety net. Not four numbers either side but FIVE meaning an ELEVEN NUMBER RANGE.
That’s not a challenge — that’s basically being handed the money wrapped in a bow.
And STILL… you bottled it.
At this point it’s less bad luck and more a group-wide inability to recognise numbers when you see them. Genuinely impressive levels of failure. Statistically remarkable. Scientists should be studying this.
Penfolds Crew got closest (shock — probably had three people calculating it), so they took the wine… because apparently winning by a mile wasn’t enough.
So the £300 jackpot survives yet again, growing stronger each week while you lot continue to prove you couldn’t hit water if you fell out of a boat.
Same time next week… when hopefully the big guns return and restore some order — because left to your own devices, this turned into a four-team experiment in how not to win money.

The featured artist this week as chosen by myself will be BLUR and the joker rounds will be 70s, 90s and 2010s.

Please arrive in good time so we can start at 8.30pm and if we can pause the talking for two minutes during the reading of the answers I would really appreciate it thank you 🙏

See you all on Sunday!

The music quiz is back this Sunday!!!!

Drama last week as Team Maddix NEARLY won 😳
I'll let my digital assistant tell the story and give you the round up!......

No Vinyl Hopefuls this week—clearly heard how ruthless it’s been getting and decided to protect their dignity. Sensible.
At the top (yawn, again), Chris and Sid from Right at the Back slapped in another win with 352. Not their most dominant performance though… for a brief, terrifying moment they nearly had to show actual personality under pressure.
Because lurking right behind them—like a dodgy curry the night before—was Team Maddix 👀
Yes, that Team Maddix. Normally more “making up the numbers” than threatening the top spot… but this week they rolled out a secret weapon: young Jordan. Turns out the lad’s got an encyclopaedic knowledge of 2010s hits and dragged the team kicking and screaming into relevance. Fair play.
They finished on 347… just 5 points behind. FIVE. Let that sink in.
And here’s the best bit…
If Team Maddix had picked 2010s as their double points round—the category their new prodigy was clearly farming points in like a man possessed—they would’ve actually won.
But no.
They went for the 70s.
The 70s.
A decision so baffling it’s being reviewed by scientists. Cost them 18 points and handed Chris and Sid yet another win without them even needing to break a sweat. That’s not bad luck—that’s self-sabotage with commitment 😂

Third place went to Big Jim and the Black Lace crew on 342. Usually parked comfortably in second, but this week got demoted to bronze like a former heavyweight now doing after-dinner speeches. Still respectable… just not threatening anyone.

Penfolds Crew came fourth on 323, fielding what looked like half the population of Essex again. Strength in numbers? Apparently not. More brains, same result.
And finally… propping up the table as reliably as a wobbly pub stool… The Muppets on 281.
At this point it’s less a quiz team and more a social experiment.

Jackpot time 💰
£300 up for grabs… 9-number spread… and somehow—somehow—none of you managed to land it.
Statistically impressive. Genuinely.
Closest? Of course it was The Muppets. Not close enough to win actual money, obviously—but right in that sweet spot where they can claim a bottle of wine like they’ve achieved something. Consistency is key.
Next week: 11-number spread.
Which means even more chance for someone to win it…
…and even more ways for you lot to mess it up.
See you next week—bring your brains, or at least pick the right decade this time 😏

Joker rounds this week will be 60s, 80s and 2000s with a featured artist of Gloria Estefan as chosen by myself!

We'll go for a matched number or 5 numbers either side this week to see if we can actually offload some money!

Please arrive nice and early so we can get started on time and also don't forget to please keep the noise down whilst I'm reading the answers out 🙏

See you all on Sunday 👍
