FOLKESTONE โ It all began with a twist of fate. At just 12 years old, Nicola Tee wasnโt planning to audition for a musical โ she only went to support her best friend. But when the opportunity arose to join the try-outs for Annie, she took a leap โ and landed the lead. That spontaneous decision would launch her into a lifelong love affair with the stage.
Now 31, Nicola Tee has blossomed into one of Kentโs most versatile and hardworking performers. Known for her high-energy performances, immaculate costumes, and heartfelt voice, Nicola wears many hats โ and plenty of sequins. She sings solo, fronts the vintage vocal trio The Jukebox Sweethearts, and performs as a Taylor Swift tribute act. Sheโs also a member of the original band The Far Field, plays piano, and sings backing vocals for various artists.
Nicolaโs journey hasnโt been without hurdles. After earning her BA (Hons) in Performing Arts from Canterbury Christ Church University, she faced years of audition rejections. But her resilience paid off โ she went on to perform on cruise ships and at international venues until the pandemic forced a pause in 2020.
โMy proudest moment is not giving up,โ she shares. โI continued to push through the โnoโs and kept performing.โ
Off stage, Nicola is just as determined. During her final year of university, she helped her mother battle breast cancer โ an emotional balancing act that shaped her view of strength and perseverance.
She credits her mother as her biggest inspiration: โSheโs the most loving and supportive person I know. Iโm lucky to have a home filled with love โ thatโs true wealth.โ
Nicolaโs latest achievements include backing vocals for Chris Slade of AC/DC, Jesse from Eagles of Death Metal, and Dave Cousins from The Strawbs. She also entertains regularly at Warner Hotels and weddings across the UK.
But itโs not just about the glamour and gigs. Nicola is open about the darker sides of the industry โ the competitiveness, the jealousy, and the need for a thick skin. Sheโs also spoken candidly about being bullied in school for spending her breaks in the music room.
โTo anyone who feels like they donโt fit in โ especially young people โ keep going,โ she says. โBelieve in yourself, even when others donโt.โ
When asked what people can expect when she steps on stage, her answer is simple: โSmiles, energy, and audience interaction. I want to bring sparkle to their evening.โ
Nicolaโs ambitions remain sky-high. She hopes to expand her wedding performances, tour internationally with fly-back gigs, and continue growing her vocal trio.
And if thereโs one thing sheโs learned since that surprise audition for Annie? โTake care of your voice โ and never stop following your dreams.โ
