Massive thank you to Bedlinog RFC for coming over to the park tonight for a conditioned session.

I think both sides took a lot out of the session and also have bits to work on in training on Thursday.

Hopefully we can do it again soon.

Good luck for the season

Rhymney 21 Mountain Ash 26
An open but error-ridden evening clash at the Park saw the Brewers concede two converted tries in the last five minutes and let slip a game which for long periods they looked likely to win. There was lots to enjoy, with four good centres starting and strong carriers on both sides, but both also literally threw chances away, and the hosts coughed up possession in the tackle when going forward no fewer than ten times. This killed momentum and with the lineout misfiring at times, it let the higher-division visitors exit too easily too often. One such counter brought Mount's opener, but Owen John pounced for a Liam Davies-converted reply and a 7-5 lead. Those missed chances kept that as the interval score, and as a host of changes were made and squads used, Mount twice exploited unfamiliarity in the home backs for tries: so although Tom Elliott's brilliant score after Alex Davies' break and Daniel Powell's powerful burst for the line, both converted by Liam Davies, made it 21-12 late on, one of those visitors' overlaps cut the gap and then a silly lineout penalty and 5-metre rolling maul try gave Mount the win, despite desperate last gasp home efforts. Sad to see bumps to scrum half Jack Worgan and lock James Seaton, both of whom were going well. Watch this space for news of the possible trip to Bedlinog on Tuesday, while the Brewers are due at Ynysybwl, rare opponents. on Sat 30th. Cheers, Akky.

Rhymney 43 Cambrian Welfare 22
Lucky Seven? No, no good fortune involved here, just another very solid seven-try pre-season outing against a Rhondda outfit from a division above, whom the Brewers had never previously met. All of the available home players saw some action, and the sun-drenched crowd saw plenty of go-forward and both individual and team skills from the hosts. Tries came from Lawson Perry (2), fit-again Alex Davies, Jack Pulsford (among the Pulsford family featured in the interesting digital programme introduced today on this platform), Powerhouse Jack Chamberlain, sharp somersaulting wing Callum Owen and Matthew Brewer, with Liam Davies and Tom Elliott landing two conversions apiece. Enjoyable and entrertaining, with Cambrian coming back somewhat with the stronger of their roster in the later stages, after Rhymney had led 22-0. It's Nantyglo away on Thursday 21st, then Bedlinog (oof!) away on Tuesday 26th. Keep it going lads! Cheers, Akky.
