It is believed that Anna, Duchess of Bedford, introduced Afternoon Tea in 1840. She would get peckish around 4pm but would have to wait until 8pm when dinner would be served. Whilst waiting for dinner she would order a pot of tea with cakes to accompany it, and it is believed that this is where the tradition of Afternoon Tea was born.
