We rehearse and perform mainly for our own pleasure, but at the end of each term we hold open rehearsal for 'friends and loved ones' and over the past years have given occasional concerts for charities, including the International Spinal Research Trust and Save the Children.

The amateur orchestra that meets at the Beansheaf Community Hall, Calcot, Reading, Berkshire, England on Saturday mornings (school term-times) 10.30am -12.45am to enjoy playing classical music and occasionally to perform concerts for charity.

Excellent workshop on Saturday with Beethoven's 'Eroica' and a fine performance of Bruch's G minor violin concerto by Savannah Brown. Well done to all, and thanks to Rory and Dinny for organising it.

Next rehearsal is on Saturday 1 March.

FALO, the orchestra's free concert for 'Friends and Loved Ones', is on Saturday 14 December. Coffee at 11.45, concert starts at 11.45. All welcome, just roll up. The programme is Balakirev: Overture on Three Russian Themes, Vaughan Williams: Folk Song Suite and Haydn: Symphony 103 'Drumroll'.

Repertoire for FALO on 6 July will be Rossini: Barber of Seville Overture, Dvorak: Legends 1-3, Beethoven: Symphony 5 mvts 1 & 2, and Bizet: Symphony in C last mvt.

Following half term, we meet again on Saturday 8 June, focussing on the Bizet and the Rossini.

Rehearsals start again on Saturday 13 April, concentrating on Bizet and Rossini. All strings very welcome.

Very good concert today, well done everybody. We reconvene on Saturday 13 April. Next term's repertoire will be: Beethoven Symphony No 5, Rossini Barber of Seville Overture, Bizet Symphony No 1 in C and Dvorak Legends Op 59.

FALO, our mini concert, is at 11.30 on 23 March. Programme will be Beethoven: Leonore No 1, Liadov: 8 Russian Folksongs and Schubert: Unfinished Symphony. All welcome.

Excellent workshop today, everyone worked very hard and the final results were most gratifying. Especial thanks to Savannah Brown, the superb soloist in the Mendelssohn violin concerto, who kindly gave her services for free. We now have a short break, and meet again on 24 February.
