It gives us such a thrill to start seeing the photos from weddings we have flowered this year and we couldn’t wait to share this one with you.

Ella and James got married in August and chose this incredible colour palette to highlight Ella’s beautiful dip dyed dress from the colours set the scene for the most amazingly happy and relaxed day - the smiles say it all!

Looking back at pictures of the Annual cutting beds last year makes me realise what a success our growing season was!

But in the interests of always improving and learning more, I signed up to Roz Chandlers Bootcamp Masterclass earlier this week titled ‘Blooming Business’. Roz runs Field Gate Flowers, a flower farm in Buckinghamshire and is passionate about sharing her knowledge of growing cut flowers.

I didn’t manage to join in the live zoom meetings but have seen them all on catch up - thank you Roz for such a wonderful amount of information! Let’s see where it leads us next year…

18th November

This morning the garden woke up kissed with silver. The dahlias, still holding onto the last of their colour, finally surrendered to the first frost. (I won’t show you a picture because it is just too sad!)

There’s something bittersweet about this moment every year — the quiet pause between seasons, the reminder that rest is part of the rhythm. Thank you, dahlias, for a season of unbelievable beauty, armfuls of blooms, and all the magic you brought to the farm.

Morning rain on the Smoke Bush (cotinus) makes it look on fire. Can’t wait to see what this pot grown specimen grows into. Thank you Hannah and James for a very thoughtful birthday present!

We are still picking dahlias for drying for Christmas wreaths. We are experimenting with drying them upright this year as this gives a more open form to the flowers and makes it really simple to dangle them through chicken wire.

Drying flowers dates back to Egyptian times with a resurgence by the Victorians. Modern florists are increasingly using dried flowers in their arrangements as a way of prolonging the flower season and a means to bring colour into the winter months.

We have had the best crop of apples this year and none are going to waste. Bridget and Betty (Kun Kun pigs) on a local farm are making the most of the windfalls!

Apple cider is also in the making - hopefully in time for Christmas.

Had a walk around the dahlias this morning and they are still blooming their heads off! Our first frost was 10th November last year - see if we can go a little longer this year… ❄️

Now we are into November our thoughts are turning to foraging for Christmas wreath workshops and a walk around the fields has revealed the most wonderful berries this year. Anyone know how to preserve them for a few weeks?

LOVE this picture of Emily who got married last month. The brief for her flowers was for jewel colours - burgundy, burnt orange, peach, dark red and a sprinkling of white - the colours of the flowers growing on the farm in September were perfect!

Beautiful bouquets made by our volunteers Sarah and Mel, who have made an amazing contribution to our flower farm this year using both their gardening and floristry skills.

They are now taking a well earned break over the winter so we had a little celebration on Friday but are looking forward to a bit of foraging help for Christmas wreath workshops coming up in December!

Thank you Sarah and Mel for your cheerful faces and continued support.
