MEET KATE: OUR WILDLINGS TUESDAY TRIBE LEADER 🌿

We are incredibly excited to introduce the newest member of the Wild Roots family, who will be taking the lead on our Home Education Tuesdays starting in January!

Everyone, meet Kate Wood.

Kate brings a powerhouse of experience to the woods. She isn’t just a Level 3 Forest School Leader; she is an educator with over 20 years of experience teaching Design & Technology and Art across the globe (from the UK to Shanghai!).

🎨 The Creative Specialist: As the owner of The Craft Junction in Bridgend, Kate is a fellow business owner who understands the power of making. She doesn’t just teach ‘crafts’; she teaches creativity as a tool for wellbeing.

🔨 The Tool Expert: With 18 years teaching Resistant Materials and Textiles, Kate is the perfect mentor for our ‘Wild Survivors’ group. She knows exactly how to guide young people to use tools safely, competently, and creatively.

🌲 The Wellbeing Advocate: Kate has even given a TEDx talk on the importance of Art for Health and Wellbeing—a philosophy that sits right at the heart of Wild Roots.

What this means for your learners:

For the Wild Explorers (AM), Kate brings a gentle, sensory-led approach to spark curiosity through natural art and play.
For the Wild Survivors (PM), she brings the technical know-how to safely teach tool work, design, and practical projects.

She will be leading the sessions every Tuesday at Red Rock Wild Camping, supported by our core team framework.

They say that when one door closes another one opens. This morning I cried as I closed the door to the Craft Junction studio for the last time.
Things don't always go the way we had planned, that's all part of life.
It's been a pleasure to teach so many beautiful people in the last 4 years and to celebrate so many Birthdays with gorgeous children and their families.
Thank you all so much for your support over the years, I couldn't have done it without you.
The Craft Junction will still be popping up here and there but due to unexpected twists in life and increased competition I sadly had to make the decision to close the studio.
Sorry for not replying to recent emails, I'll try to get back to you as soon as I can.
Here's to the next chapter, whatever that may be.......

Our Wildflower Art groups are weekly and run by Kate at The Craft Junction. We have been funded by National Autistic Society for these groups and we very grateful. The group is open to all autistic girls, and young women, over the age of 10 years, who are home schooled, not in education or employment. Contact Davina [email protected]

Look out for our masks around Bridgend!

Neurodiversity Celebration Week
18th- 24th March, 2024
Neurodiversity Celebration Week is a worldwide initiative that challenges stereotypes and misconceptions about neurological differences. The Wildflower Art Class has been designing masks to create a trail around Bridgend, ‘Unmasking Autism’. Have a look out for our beautiful masks and join us in celebrating a year of Wildflower Art classes for autistic girls and young women. Thank you National Autistic Society for funding our classes. Thank you Kate The Craft Junction for coming up with this wonderful idea. Thank you to all the amazing young people in our Wildflower Project

As I'm not doing Art Clubs anymore, I'm hoping to do more one off workshops. So, here is the first one!! A Valentine's special for all those Keith Haring fans out there.
We will learn all about Keith Haring before using tricks and techniques for how to paint an A3 canvas in his style.

For those who don't already know. With the help and support of some amazing people, who I am privileged to have as friends, we have set up a Community Incorporated Company called 'Art and Soul Cafe CIC'.
This is a not for profit organisation which we hope will benefit as many people in Bridgend as possible with their health and wellbeing through creative activities.
