Exactly 24 years ago today, an old fire engine was being used by a Port Glasgow vehicle recovery firm to help keep foot and mouth disease at bay.

The team at Auto Tec of Port Glasgow - who at the time were contracted by Strathclyde Police to recover stolen and accident-damaged vehicles - were instructed to disinfect all cars removed from farmland as a safety precaution.
