Couldn’t be prouder of our amazing team. Last night a bunch of us hiked overnight from Hamworthy Park to Hengsbury Head completing 14 “switchbacks/summits” in honour of the incredible Nimsdai Foundation Nirmal Purja MBE - NIMSDAI
James and Harry Smashed the 22 miles in just over 6 hours getting in first. We all had the best night and met some truly inspirational people along the way. A huge well done to all that took part. 🌃🌅💪🏼

🔥 CAMPFIRE COOK-UP WEEK! 🔥

There’s been some seriously good food coming off the campfires across our groups this week! 😋

Our Home Edders got stuck into making their own flatbreads from scratch before cooking them over the fire, while our other Duke of Edinburgh groups took on the challenge of cooking up some cracking campfire breakfasts. 🥓🍳🔥

But before any of that could happen, they had to get their fires going and keep them burning well enough to actually cook on, which took plenty of patience, perseverance and teamwork!

Loads of new skills learnt, some very full bellies and, most importantly, a lot of fun along the way.

Not a bad week in the woods! 🌲🔥⚒️

🔥 FIRST WEEK BACK… AND STRAIGHT BACK INTO IT! 🔥

What a first week back for Leighton at Wildforge Outdoors! 🌲⚒️

One of the things we love most about Alternative Provision is that learning doesn’t always need a desk, a worksheet or four walls. Sometimes the best learning happens when you’re doing something real.

This week Leighton has been helping me get Wildforge ready for the new term…

🌿 Mowing and preparing some of our new activity areas
🪓 Painting our brand-new axe throwing targets
🏹 Helping put up a new archery safety net
🎳 Heading out for a game of bowling
🎱 Playing pool - sneaking in some practical maths by adding up scores and talking about angles, positioning and where to hit the ball
🕹️ And we may have found a little bit of time for the arcade too… 😏😂

But underneath all the fun, there’s so much more going on.

We’re building confidence, independence, practical skills, problem solving, communication and trust while giving young people opportunities to succeed in an environment where they feel comfortable.

Leighton absolutely smashed his first week back. 💪

And the best bit?

To him, it probably just felt like we were having a great week.

That’s exactly how we like it. 🌲🔥

Today we hosted an awesome bunch of veterans from the BOWRA Foundation on our 3 hour weapons in the woods session. Some amazing shooting, axe throwing and archery was witnessed!

🌒☀️ IT’S ECLIPSE DAY! ☀️🌒

So, of course, today’s Holiday Club had to have a SUN & PROJECTILE theme! 🎯🔥🏹

We started the day learning how to find our way using nothing but the sun. The children used shadow sticks to work out the cardinal points of our site 🧭 before putting their new skills to the test on a woodland treasure hunt, using their directions to solve the clues and find their way around Wildforge.

Then it was time for the projectiles! 🎯

With everything being so incredibly dry at the moment, James also demonstrated just how easily a fire can start using nothing more than a piece of glass and the sun. 🔥☀️ A really powerful way of showing the children why we have to be so careful with fire, litter and glass in the countryside during dry weather.

And there was only one way we could finish Eclipse Day…

We headed down to Hamworthy Park, had a dip in the sea 🌊 and watched the eclipse together! 🌒☀️

Adventure, science, navigation, fire safety, target sports and an eclipse at the beach… not a bad Wednesday at Holiday Club! 🏹🌲🔥🌊
