We managed to sneak a few behind the scenes snaps while the very lovely Cotswolds Wedding Photographer | Lara Jacques Photography 💫, the real professional was doing her thing! 📸

As part of what we do, we’ll usually send these little BTS moments over to our couples to enjoy looking over within a few days after their wedding.

Because amongst all the beautifully polished wedding photography, we think the slightly chaotic, completely real getting ready moments deserve a place too.

BUT… we’ve turned one of them into a game. 👀

Before + afters can make it look like we’ve turned one person into another.

That’s not our goal.

And, quite often, it’s not why our clients book with us either…

Many of our clients don’t wear much makeup on a daily basis so can feel a little out of their comfort zone when first sitting in the makeup chair.

Some clients aren’t big fans of foundation. Some just want to look like themselves, just with a little more polish.

So what do we do? ➡️

WE LISTEN FIRST, THEN WE MAKE UP!

We gather your hair + makeup brief in advance, not just from you but from your maids, mums + anyone else in your wedding party that’s joining us too.

When we meet in person, that’s when we get down to the nitty gritty.

And if you’d rather do an element of your own makeup (like Freya did here with her brows) that’s all cushty with us.

We’re not here to layer it on with a trowel.

We’re here to use quality makeup where you want it, how you want it, creating a fresh, polished version of you that still feels completely familiar.

Our client Hannah uploaded her initial thoughts on our carefully designed Booking Form where she gave us a brief description of what she wanted to achieve (and what she wanted to avoid) together with some Pinterest pics as a vision…

Because inspiration pictures are useful, but they’re not a blueprint.

It’s our job to decode what elements of each pic our clients are drawn to…

THE PREVIEWS (1st DRAFT)

Olga organised Hannah’s preview appointment to take place 2 months prior to her wedding with multi talented Swindon based Hair + Makeup Artist Emma Hamlet Bridal

Emma looked at things like face shape, hair type, texture, skin, colouring, dress, neckline, accessories and most importantly, how Hannah wanted to feel on her big day.

Withint 24 hours each and every client is sent an email to follow up for feedback…

THE FEEDBACK

This bit was *the most crucial stage* of Hannah’s wedding hair and makeup journey where sadly some people can feel disheartened if their experience or expectations weren’t fully met.

TIP: If you’re lacking confidence addressing concerns face to face with your artist, take your time. Keep the hair in, keep the makeup on, look at it in different lighting and see how you feel later on in the day.

We DON’T advise screenshotting a bunch of selfies taken in questionable lighting to every member of your wedding party (or random Facebook groups!) for peoples opinions - that’s a recipe for complete overwhelm and a decision fatigue disaster waiting to happen!

This one thing might surprise you at your Wedding Makeup Preview…

If you’re not a regular makeup wearer it can be tricky trying to describe the sort of makeup look you’d like to achieve on your wedding day.

Words like “natural” or “barely there” or “I want to still look like me” are words we hear all of the time when our wedding + prom clients first get in touch.

With so many AI images online these days coupled with images snapped of models on styled shoots it can be a challenge for us makeup artists to navigate what sort of ‘natural look’ is real and achievable.😓

If you’ve done your homework you’ve already sent us some images before we meet in person and if you’ve booked a preview appointment too ~ we’ll ask you to bring along YOUR MAKEUP BAG!

Why?
It’s not because we don’t already have a candy shop equivalent of our own cosmetics to use, its because…

1. We’re makeup fanatics so never get bored having a nose!

2. It gives us an insight into what your go-to routine is. If we spot a liquid highlighter, an illuminating foundation and ICONIC’s prep set glow - we know you’re not a matte kinda gal!

3. There’s also look out for subtle clues which might indicate that some of your stuff is sadly past it’s “best before.”

If you’ve been suffering from unexplained breakouts we’ll let you know (nicely) that some of your faves should be making their way to the recycle bin! (You get £5 put onto your Boots Advantage card - to soften the blow!)

4. Some cosmetics just aren’t friends and don’t sit well together. Using a silicone based primer with a water based foundation? Sorry, it’s not a match!

Think of your preview appointment as a little skincare + mini makeup lesson in one! 🫶
