Recent build: PLM Entertainments & Events 🎧

Lee runs a luxury DJ and events business in South Wales (Best of Welsh Awards 2025 finalist). He was juggling enquiries, deposits, music requests and DJ bookings across WhatsApp, email and spreadsheets.

Now it all runs from one system:
✅ New website at plmentertainments.com
✅ Online enquiries, quotes and bookings
✅ Card payments, booking fees and automatic reminders
✅ A client app for planning the big day: music, add-ons, event questionnaire
✅ Logins for his DJ team, with their own availability calendar
✅ An online shop and a DJ Academy with subscriptions

His clients book and pay online, and he runs the whole business from his phone.

🎧 DJ MYTHS

Episode 8: A good DJ only plays new music.

Here’s another DJ myth…

“If you’re a good DJ, you should always be playing the latest tracks.”

I love new music.

I’m constantly listening to what’s coming out.

New house.

New R&B.

New garage.

New indie.

New country.

Whatever catches my ear.

But being a good DJ isn’t about how quickly you can find the latest release.

It’s about understanding music.

I’ve been DJing for more than 30 years.

I’ve watched genres come and go.

I’ve seen records that were huge disappear for years and suddenly become massive again.

I’ve played vinyl.

CDs.

Downloads.

Controllers.

Streaming.

And now whatever comes next.

I’ve seen people dance to music their parents grew up with…

…and then go crazy for a track released last week.

That’s what makes weddings so interesting.

A great night might take you from Prince…

to 90s R&B…

to Oasis…

to house…

to a modern UK garage track…

to something released this month.

And it can all work.

Because good DJing isn’t about chasing what’s new.

It’s about understanding what works, who you’re playing for and when to play it.

My own taste hasn’t stopped evolving either.

The 10-year-old me hearing Prince for the first time.

The 18-year-old me discovering house music.

The 20-year-old me discovering Oasis.

And the me today discovering artists like Sonny Fodera, MK, Josh Butler, Luke Combs and plenty of others.

I’m still listening.

Still discovering.

Still learning.

That’s the point.

🎶 New music matters.

But great DJing isn’t defined by the release date.

🎧 THINGS NOBODY TELLS YOU ABOUT BEING A DJ

Episode 2: You’re not just the DJ.

Nobody tells you this when you start DJing…

You think your job is going to be playing music.

Simple, right?

Not quite. 😂

At a wedding, the DJ somehow becomes:

The person who knows when the speeches are starting.

The person who knows where the microphone is.

The person who gets asked if the photographer has arrived.

The person who gets asked what time the food is coming out.

The person who gets asked where the toilets are.

The person who gets asked if you can turn the lights up.

The person who gets asked if you’ve seen someone’s phone.

And occasionally…

The person who gets told about someone’s relationship problems at the bar. 😂

You become part DJ.

Part event manager.

Part announcer.

Part technician.

Part therapist.

And sometimes…

Part security. 😳

And you know what?

That’s actually part of the job.

Because when you’ve been doing this for 30+ years, you learn that being a good DJ isn’t just about knowing your music.

It’s about being useful.

Keeping calm.

Knowing what’s happening around you.

Helping when you can.

And quietly solving problems without turning them into someone else’s problem.

The guests might think I’m there to play the music.

And I am.

But if I can also help the evening run smoothly while I’m doing it…

that’s part of being a professional.

🎶 You’re booking a DJ.

But sometimes you get a little bit of everything else thrown in for free. 😂

🎧 DJ MYTHS

Episode 6: Experienced DJs don’t need to prepare.

Here’s another one…

“You’ve been doing it for 30 years. You must just turn up and wing it.”

Actually…

Quite the opposite.

Experience doesn’t mean you stop preparing.

It means you understand what needs preparing.

Before a wedding, I’m still checking the music.

I’m still checking the timings.

I’m still checking the first dance.

I’m still checking the venue details.

I’m still making sure the equipment is ready.

I’m still thinking about the couple’s preferences.

And I’m still making sure I’ve got options if the night takes an unexpected turn.

Because confidence doesn’t come from assuming everything will be fine.

Confidence comes from being prepared for when it isn’t.

I’ve been doing this for 30+ years.

I’ve seen equipment fail.

Timings change.

Venues throw you curveballs.

Couples change their minds.

Guests request things you weren’t expecting.

And sometimes the room simply doesn’t respond the way you thought it would.

That’s exactly why preparation matters.

I don’t prepare every song I’m going to play.

I prepare for the night.

There’s a difference.

The experience allows me to adapt.

The preparation gives me the freedom to do it.

So yes…

After more than 1,000 gigs, I probably could turn up with a laptop, press play and hope for the best.

But that’s not how I work.

Because when someone’s trusted me with one of the biggest nights of their life…

“It’ll probably be alright” isn’t good enough.

🎶 Experience doesn’t replace preparation.

It makes preparation more effective.

🎧 1,000+ GIGS LATER…

Episode 10: Experience doesn’t mean you stop caring.

Here’s probably the biggest thing I’ve learned after more than 1,000 gigs…

Experience doesn’t mean you stop caring.

If anything, I think it should mean the opposite.

After 30+ years behind the decks, I’ve seen just about everything.

Amazing dancefloors.

Quiet rooms.

Last-minute changes.

Unexpected requests.

Equipment problems.

Packed venues.

Small intimate weddings.

Crowds that dance to everything.

And crowds that take a little more convincing.

I’ve learned how to deal with all of it.

But I’ve never wanted to get to the point where I simply turn up, press play and go through the motions.

Because every booking is someone’s special occasion.

Someone has trusted me with it.

Someone has spent months planning it.

And someone is going to remember how that night felt.

That’s why I still prepare.

I still check my equipment.

I still think about the music.

I still speak to clients beforehand.

I still care about getting the details right.

And when I walk into a venue, I still want to give that particular couple the best night I possibly can.

30+ years of experience doesn’t mean I’ve seen it all and stopped learning.

It means I’ve learned that the little things matter.

The right song.

The right moment.

The right atmosphere.

The right decision when something doesn’t go to plan.

And sometimes, simply being the person in the room who genuinely cares about getting it right.

10 episodes.

1,000+ gigs.

30+ years.

And I still love being a DJ.

🎶 Experience is knowing what to do.

Passion is still caring enough to do it properly.
