TICKETS - online tickets are now closed as I need to do up the logistics for the event. There will be a few tickets available on the door on the day until venue capacity is reached.
350 folk have reserved 550 tickets and the venue capacity is 600 so if you can't make it and want to pass on your ticket to someone else you can do so by emailing the ticket confirmation to them.
Please bring your Eventbrite or email confirmation with you .

Ther's info on the website as to what to expect on the day but you need to be at the lido from 8AM onwards with the last entry into the venue at 9AM.
No spectators are allowed within the lido - only participants but if you need to have someone with you who isn't taking part themselves e.g. a carer or enabler then please drop me an email at [email protected] and we'll work something out for you.
Children are very welcome but will need to be accompanied by an adult who is also taking part in the challenge and you will both need tickets.
When you come along to the lido please bring a towel or lilo or something to sit on - I have ordered some sunshine and hopefully it will turn up ............
There are limited facilities within the lido but there are public loos up on the Eastern side of the Hoe - past The Dome and set back a little on the left past the mini roundabout ( they may be 20P ) and there are free loos below The Terrace cafe which should be open if The Terrace cafe is open.
There's lots of places for spectators to view the event from the public walkways and sunbathing terrace above the lido and you'll have a fantastic aeriel view from there.

The actual attempt is a timed 5 minute period with everyone in place and in costume and that will be at 9.30AM.

The Mermaid Challenge 2022 - 10 days to go !!
Not long now until we'll all be assembled at Tinside Lido and ready to go !!
Entry to the lido on the day will be strictly limited to those already registered with Eventbrite as taking part in the challenge and dressed as merfolk so please bring along your registration confirmation on the day. We will have a list of entrants so if you forget yours we'll tick you off from there but with 500 merfolk to get in place time will be at a premium so if you can bring your confirmation along that will help enormously.
There wll be a very, very limited amount of tickets available on the day but to be guaranteeed entry you will need your pre-registration confirmation.

The logistics of getting an accurate count of merfolk to verify the world record means that spectators will be able to view the event from the public walkways above but won't be allowed into the lido.
If you need to have someone with you who isn't taking part themselves e.g. a carer or enabler then please drop me an email at [email protected] and we'll work something out for you.
Children are very welcome but will need to be accompanied by an adult taking part in the challenge as well.
I've put some info up on the website as to timings for the day with entry to the lido from 8AM and everyone in place by 9AM ( ish ). You won't be able to walk in your costume ( mermaids don't have legs after all ) so you'll need to get yourself into your chosen area and make yourself comfy before you put your tail on.
There'll be a media team at the lido taking lots of photographs and videos of the event including drone footage so make sure you smile for the camera 🙂

Parking on the roads around Tinside Lido is very, very limited so I'd recommend that you use one of the nearby car parks. You can have a look on google but the closest ones are Elphinstone, Lambhay Hill, Guildhall, Theatre Royal and Civic centre. Disabled parking bays are available outside the lido.
Please allow yourself plenty of time on the day to park up and get yourself here as there's likely to be lots of folks around and we need to manage getting everyone in position on time.
It's also a good idea to being something to drink along with you as we don't want any dehydrated merfolk so make sure you bring along a refillable water bottle.

The Mermaid Challenge will be to set the Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of mermaids - mermen and merchildren also welcome.

Mermaid costume instructions if you want to upcycle and make your own are now up on the website here - more pics to follow :-)

Charity shops are a great source for dresses and accessories that can be upcycled into a mermaid outfit. The easiest items to upcycle are long dresses in a stretch material.

Costume tips - MUST be close fitting to the ankle ( not the knee ) and then flare out to cover the feet. You don't need an actual fin - just material is fine :-)

Mermaid costumes - these have been approved by Guinness - the green one is a simple design and the mauve one is upcycled from a long dress bought from a charity shop - no sewing required - instructions coming soon ..............
