As you may have seen popping up around the city, and on our socials, we did an incredibly cool thing and it's finally time for us to share it officially with you wonderful people!

If you are interested in:
- Stunning illustrations
- Comics
- Community lead research
- Q***r and/or disabled activism
- Uplifting marginalised voices

Then come join us at Sappho's on June 6th! This event is the official launch of 'Disability, Q***rness & Me - and exploration of social experiences'.
The event will feature a panel made up of Dr Stuart Read, Jua OK!, Mimi Jones and Stu Watson, supported by Dr Nina Worthington, and hosted by Mal Biele. We will be inviting you to ask questions towards the end of the panel so keep these in mind!

We will be giving out copies of the comic if you haven't collected yours yet, and we will be providing free food and drinks! There will be an opportunity for you to network at the end of the event. Q***r Out Loud will be providing some worksheets to help facilitate this if you need them.

Sappho's is a small venue so please ensure you book a ticket in advance to guarantee a seat. If you are bringing your own seat (wheelchair, rollator, or just a chair you prefer sitting in) please book the 'I am bringing my own seat' ticket. This helps us ensure we lay out the seating correctly!

🕺Our monthly performance nights are back up and running baby!! Now hosted at Cafe and Community Space!! ✨

And we’re looking for q***r singers, poets, musicians, comedians, burlesque and drag acts and/or other multi talented folk to perform at our events 🎤

We’re excited to switch up to a sober and more central venue and look forward to meeting new faces! Though as the performance floor space will be smaller (and flatter!) than our previous stage, we recommend going for less bouncy acts (or improvising slightly and adapting to the new space)

Check out the links in our bio to sign up to perform or to book your tickets - seats are limited, attendance is FREE but we appreciate any donations that you can spare! All money goes directly towards supporting our Gender Affirming Care fund 💜

These events are made possible thanks to National Lottery Funding! 🤞 💕

Announcing the return of Thread Jam 📢 We're bringing back a favourite event as part of our monthly socials!

Join us on Tues 28th April 1-4 at The Plot for a spring spruce-up of your jackets, totebags and other garments you've been avoiding stitching patches onto🧵

You can also have a look through our clothes swap rail outside Shed 752 for anything new (donations encouraged but not mandatory) and have a go at clothes alterations!

Some thread and needles will be provided, but BYO if you can

Thank you to for the awesome DIY poster and for running the session for us 🫶

This event was made possible thanks to National Lottery Awards for All funding 🤞

Artist of the Month!!!

This time we're highlighting work by the wonderful 🐙

Among other things, she makes beautiful handcrafted (often spooky or sea inspired) resin jewellery in a variety of designs! Our favourites are the pride flag ghost earrings and stickers 👻

We're really grateful to Ju for donating extra 20% from every sale of a pride flag design under the trans umbrella towards our Gender Affirming Care fund 💕

If you'd like to have a look through the selection of jewellery, prints, cards and stickers that stocks with us, come swing by our shop on Union Street, or catch us at Almanac Q***r Maker's Market this Saturday 18th 🌼

Bring a laptop, notebook and pen, your phone, or the back of a napkin, and get writing!

This is NOT a workshop, but a chance to use the power of body doubling to get some work done. Maybe you have been intending to write some more poetry, maybe you've been avoiding editing that chapter, maybe you are working on your uni paper... Whatever it is, Write In Company!

There will be plenty of coffee available to purchase from to fuel your session, and maybe even some of their delicious sweet treats. There will be a bowl of writing prompts to use if needed, but this will be self led (our team has writing to focus on too!)

If any poetry comes out of this session, talk to Mimi about submitting it as part of Sound: Poetry Festival's poetry installation. There are no rules on what counts as poetry, but aim for no more than two sides of A4!
If you aren't attending this session, but have some poetry to submit to the installation anyway, check out the link in our bio.

See you there!

We are part of Plymouth Poetry Festival again!

Same as last year, we have space for 8 performers who will all be paid for their time. Please make sure you sign up via the link in our bio as soon as possible - this will be a first come, first serve basis!

If you would like to attend the event as an audience member, you can find the link to tickets in our bio too. There is limited capacity in the venue so booking in advance is important! Tickets are £8, a donation, or free - go with whatever suits your situation best. Ticket sales support the festival in ensuring all performers, photographers, event hosts, and organisers are paid for their time.

If you are a poet but can't perform that day, or just don't fancy it, submit some work to the poetry installation instead!! We would love to see as much gloriously q***r work in there as possible 🏳️‍🌈
Submit your poetry via (yet another) link in our bio

Artist of the Month!!

has been stocked with us since we opened and we have adored seeing all the wonderful new goodies they create!

Our personal favourite is 'An Existence Day Zine' which helps fundraisers for coral planting! It is a beautiful community collection of creations - from essays to poetry to comic strips, and jokes... It simply acknowledges our existence on this planet, and how we perceive it.
The zine is £14, and all profits go to Coral Gardeners but if you are not in a position to pay at the moment, there are free versions on AntiBurnout.co.uk as "art should be accessible to all!"

The whole team are incredibly excited to read the next book that brings out in their "3..." series. We have their 3 Day and 3 Week books in stock already, and their new 3 Year book is coming soon.

They are also the creator of .co.uk. They have loads of blog posts discussing avoiding burnout, periodic events, and the infamous Half Baked exhibition. Submissions for their next exhibition have just closed - the installation will be open from 1st March to 13th March at Sappho's! There will be work from your favourite local creatives but not the polished pieces you might be used to. Instead, it is a collection of work that hasn't been finished, or is missing those final touches.

If you would like to see just how wonderful their work is yourself, come down to the shop and have a look around!

Please note, our open hours have changed slightly due to reduced staffing at The Plot. We typically post on our stories to say that we are open each day but if you are ever in doubt, send us a message and we will get back to you as soon as we can!
