Starting your weaning journey and wondering what your little one’s food should look like? We’ve got you 💛
Whether you’re a parent at home or an early years professional supporting babies in your setting, knowing how to prepare age-appropriate foods can feel overwhelming at first.
Purees and mashed foods 🥕🍌
Purees should be thick but smooth, no lumps at first. Small soft lumps can gradually be introduced as soon as baby is developmentally ready. Gradually increase the lumpiness of the food over time until it resembles the mashed texture shown here.
Finger foods 🥑🥦
Fingers foods can also be offered from 6 months. Finger foods are pieces of food, roughly the length of an adult index finger. They should be soft enough for a baby to bite through with their gums. Remove skin, pips, seeds and any stringy bits from the foods.
