How do you make talking about pricing sound a nice thing? It’s pretty hard to be honest.
I really struggled when I initially set up with pricing. In all honesty, I am still learning. It’s constant trial & error. One thing I have learnt over the years is to believe in my own worth & price accordingly. I want to be as the person selling a service, better in communicating my value. Hopefully then the more they’ll come to understand the value of the product of I deliver 🤞
I want to be upfront with my pricing. I have wasted a lot (& I mean a lot) of time going back & forth with sending numerous quotes only to find out they never want to pay anywhere near that for your product. That is fair enough. I’ve organised a wedding myself with little budget so I know how it is to be on the other side 🙂
How can ‘paper’ cost so much?
What I would very much like get across is that my stationery, along with many other fellow stationers, is that it’s not ‘just a piece of paper’ that is produced on everyday household inkjet paper (I hope it doesn’t look like that either 😉). So much more is behind it all.
I think potential customers really struggle to understand what value & time you bring to your work. I really hope I show that, but apologise if I have failed to do so. In the early stages I was too desperate to hear those words ‘happy to proceed with the order’ that I massively undercut myself & therefore made very little profit margin. We are all worth more than that & you have to believe that clients will pay for what they desire & value highly enough.
I’m finally getting more confident to have pride in what I do & to not be afraid of saying no to working for less. We deserve to reflect our value in the prices we charge as designers & stationers. Design takes time & good design has expertise & experience behind it. My designs are all done with my own time, effort & skill.
What might help at the very beginning of an enquiry is to be open (& don’t be afraid of doing so) of what you are roughly budgeting for stationery so time is saved for us both 🙏🏼 Thanks for reading if you made it to the end 😆. I appreciate every single enquiry & order no matter how big or small x
