I’ve spent the past few days reading through the feedback from Dying to Know.
And do you know what it’s shown me?
People are ready to talk about death, dying, funeral choices and planning ahead.
They just need the right space, the right tone, and the right invitation.
Around 85 people came along to the event at Pangbourne Club, and 41 feedback forms were returned afterwards. The response was overwhelmingly positive, but it wasn’t just the scores that mattered - it was what people wrote.
“Every community needs an event like this.”
“I have my choices in my head, but I must now share them with my loved ones.”
“Most helpful - no salesmanship.”
“Nobody knows they need this until it’s too late. Keep doing it!”
“You brought the right vibe.”
That last one means a lot.
Because the aim was never to create a gloomy evening, a lecture, or a sales pitch.
It was to create a calm, warm, useful space where people could ask questions, hear from different perspectives, gather practical information, and perhaps leave feeling a little less alone with a subject many of us quietly avoid.
And they did.
People asked questions.
People stayed behind talking.
People took resources home.
People said they were going to speak to loved ones.
People suggested we take it on tour.
That feels like a very strong signal.
Thank you again to everyone who came, supported, spoke, listened, asked, shared and encouraged.
I have a feeling Dying to Know may only just be getting started.
