At Wadham College, sustainability is being driven through ambitious targets, innovative technology and practical everyday action 🌿

Led by Fellow in Biology Professor Joe Bull and Director of Sustainability Frances Lloyd, the College is working towards carbon net-zero and a biodiversity net gain of 20–30% by 2035. Wadham was also recognised as a finalist at the Oxford Climate Awards 2025 for Sustainable Further Education School/College of the Year and achieved a Gold Green Impact Award from Oxford University for the second consecutive year.

Significant progress is already being made across the College:
✨23% reduction in gas usage since its peak in 2020–21
✨9% reduction in electricity usage since 2021–22
✨11% reduction in water consumption
✨500 Eyesense smart energy management devices installed
✨4 buildings now fossil-fuel free
✨28 tonnes of waste sent to mixed recycling in 2024–25

Their sustainability initiatives include thermal heat batteries, solar panels, LED lighting upgrades, smart occupancy based energy management systems and thermal building improvements designed to reduce environmental impact while improving efficiency.

Sustainable catering also plays a key role. Seasonal menus, local sourcing and collaboration with suppliers help reduce carbon footprint, while daily food donations and partnerships with charities ensure surplus food supports the local community.

From energy management and waste reduction to biodiversity and responsible food practices, Wadham College is demonstrating how historic institutions can help shape a more sustainable future for events and hospitality. 💚

Think you can guess what’s coming? 👀

Here’s a little hint… although we’ve blurred it out for now! 😉

What we can say is that it’s designed to make things:
✨ Smoother
✨ Faster
✨ Even better for our clients and venues

We’re excited to share more soon, but until then we’d love to hear your guesses in the comments! 👏

Sustainability is part of everyday life at Wycliffe Hall 🌿

From wildflower planting and bird nesting boxes to energy-efficient lighting and smart heating systems, thoughtful changes across the Hall are helping reduce environmental impact while supporting biodiversity and wildlife.

Sustainable catering is also a key focus, with seasonal produce sourced locally wherever possible, ingredients grown on Oxford allotments, and composting initiatives helping reduce kitchen food waste by 27%.

With energy usage reduced by almost 30% and EV chargers being introduced for guests, Wycliffe Hall continues to invest in a more sustainable future for events and hospitality 💚

Continuing our Sustainable Events in Action campaign with Reuben College. 🌿

At Reuben College, sustainability is embedded into everyday event delivery , from plant-forward seasonal menus and low-waste cooking practices to digital alternatives and hybrid event options that help reduce environmental impact.

Reuben College also has a Net Zero target of 2035, supported by a Sustainability Strategy focused on reducing emissions, improving energy efficiency and monitoring environmental impact across the College.👏👏

Their catering philosophy champions seasonal British produce, responsibly sourced ingredients and creative approaches to reducing food waste, while sustainability initiatives across the College include energy-efficient systems, the elimination of single-use plastics and on-site food waste processing.

Thoughtful planning, responsible sourcing and innovation are helping shape more sustainable events for the future.😍

The Schwarzman Centre recently hosted its first Gala Dinner event ✨

Held in honour of donor Stephen Schwarzman, the evening featured stunning musical and ballet performances in the Sohmen Concert Hall, followed by a three-course dinner in the breathtaking Great Hall.

Guests enjoyed spectacular live entertainment throughout the evening before being serenaded by a traditional bagpiper on departure 🎶

The event beautifully showcased the Centre’s striking architecture and offered the first opportunity to demonstrate the incredible experiences the Schwarzman Centre can create.

We’re proud to launch our Sustainable Events in Action campaign with Campion Hall🌿

At Campion Hall, sustainability is part of everyday event delivery from energy and water-saving initiatives to creative reuse projects like a wine cellar built from recycled racks.

The Cellar Project was made possible thanks to the generosity of other Oxford colleges, which donated unused racks, a brilliant example of collaboration and reuse within the Oxford community.

Waste reduction is a key focus, with single-use plastics eliminated, surplus food shared through a community fridge, and materials such as candles and table linens given a second life.

Sustainable catering also plays an important role, with locally sourced ingredients, seasonal menus and strong partnerships with nearby farms.

Beyond the kitchen, biodiversity is supported through gardens, wildflower areas and bee initiatives, helping create spaces that benefit both people and wildlife.

This is sustainability in action, thoughtful decisions, meaningful impact and a shared commitment to the future.
