Alexanders - (Smyrnium Olusatrum) AKA Horse Parsley and Black Lovage - it is most probably Cornwall’s’ most prolific hedgerow beauty. Depending on who you ask though- some think it an invasive ugly … ( def not me!)
These bright yellow - green flowering plants are often confused with Angelica or toxic Hogw**d…. But they are known as ‘the forgotten vegetable’ and are an ancient medicinal plant.
Used to treat menstrual problems and wounds as well as asthma.
All parts of the plant are edible and tasty - they’re like a floral celery and give a gorgeous zing of colour to the hedgerow at this time of year! I ❤️ Alexanders!!
