☀️ Highlights from Saturday, 1st August 2026 at Cured, The Navigation Inn (Wilford Street), Fothergills and The Castle – Pub and Kitchen.

Sunshine, canalside strolls and a bar or three: our Canalside Summer Bar Hop in Nottingham

Affinity members made the most of a glorious summer's day on Saturday with a Canalside Summer Bar Hop, one of those easy, unhurried socials that runs from the afternoon right through into the evening. Fifteen of us came along, starting off at Cured in Nottingham before drifting along the waterside and seeing where the day took us.

By the second stop at Navigation Inn with another drink outside in the sun, the water alongside and good company all round, it is a hard combination to beat. Fifteen made for a lively, sociable crowd as we headed to our final stops at Fothergills and The Castle Pub.

The hardest part of a good autumn in Nottingham is rarely finding something to do, it is having someone to do it with. Affinity members come along to events on their own all the time, and nobody stands in a corner for long, whether that is a Pub Quiz Night at the Trent Navigation Inn or a Peak District Walk followed by Sunday lunch.

Whether you are new to the city or you have lived here for twenty years and your social circle has quietly shrunk, autumn is the season to act. Once the clocks go back it is remarkably easy to reach February having done nothing but work and telly, so a full diary makes all the difference.

🎶 From the archives: Saturday, 18th July 2026 at Secret Garden.

Sunshine, house classics and a garden full of good company - Ibiza Summer Party in Nottingham

Affinity members swapped the city streets for a stylish outdoor garden on Saturday afternoon for our Ibiza Summer Party, a daytime social built entirely around the music, the sunshine and a crowd ready to dance. Set in the leafy surrounds of the Secret Garden in Nottingham, it was the perfect way to bottle a little of that White Isle feeling without leaving the East Midlands.

From the moment people started arriving at 2:00pm, the atmosphere was exactly what we'd hoped for. Drinks in hand, sun on our backs, and an open-air soundtrack of house, Ibiza classics and feel-good dance anthems drifting across the garden. Our host Claire had everyone chatting and settled in no time, and a few of the group who'd come along on their own were soon part of the crowd like they'd known everyone for years.

One of us is the Demon. Probably the one being suspiciously helpful.

Blood on the Clocktower is back at the Malt Cross on Thursday 10th September, third time round after the first two sold out. Arrive from 7:00pm, the game starts at 7:30pm sharp.

Think The Traitors, but you get to play it. Question everyone's story, build alliances, work out who is lying before darkness takes over. And if your character dies you are still in the game, so nobody sits out.

We are playing Trouble Brewing, the script written for complete beginners, and our Storyteller walks you through every step. 5 people booked so far, so there is still room.

Adam is hosting and will look after anyone joining for the first time.

A proper summer Sunday at Mellish 🌞

A group of us spent the morning at Mellish Rugby Club for our Inflatable Family Fun Day. The whole pitch had been given over to inflatables, a Minions assault course down one side, two enormous slides in the middle, a pirate ship and a sweet stall in among it all.

The children were off almost as soon as we arrived and only really came back for drinks. The grown ups set up camping chairs on the edge of the field and talked while the children wore themselves out. Blue sky, hardly a cloud and grass that had clearly not seen rain in weeks.

Thank you to Sarah, who suggested this one in the first place and hosted it.

It was a free Affinity event with just the venue's own admission on the day, £10 per child and parents free. We will hopefully look at running something similar in the next school holidays.

🍽️ From the archives: Wednesday, 29th July 2026 at Kōnā.

Sharing plates, good company and Nottingham's newest table: our Evening Meal at Kōnā in West Bridgford

Affinity members headed to West Bridgford on Wednesday evening for dinner at Kōnā, the exciting new café and tapas bar that had only just opened its doors that very week.

Six of us gathered around the table at 7:30, and with the place still in its opening week and a rather generous 30% off all food to enjoy, it was the perfect excuse to be among the first to try it.

A long table and a very good curry. Seven of us met on a Friday evening at MemSaab on Maid Marian Way, one of the best known Indian restaurants in Nottingham and a place that has been quietly getting it right for years.

It does not feel like a standard curry house. The atmosphere is superb, the service is amazing, and the food did most of the work when it arrived. Plenty of sharing, plenty of "try a bit of this" and the usual friendly debate about who had ordered best.

Thank you to Terry and Tünde for hosting, and to everyone who came along. Meeting new people, sharing great moments and creating memories is what these evenings are all about.
