As a result of our work on Ashfield Creates we’ve been working with District Council Council on a number of exciting mural projects.
We couldn't be more proud of how this beautiful mural in Stanton Hill turned out!
Unveiled yesterday, and painted in a photo-reaslitic style, the mural was designed by Nottingham-based artist Anthony Donnelly (of Urban Canvas) and painted by Anthony and local artist Stephen Malcolm. It was commissioned to celebrate the area's industrial heritage (the miner) whilst looking towards the future (the young girl).
Fun fact: the lamp in the miner's hand belonged to Stephen's grandfather, who worked at the local pit. It was important to both artists that the design reflected a real memory that people could relate to.
It's never an easy thing to make something of this scale happen, so we'd like to thank everyone who made it possible – the local residents, who contributed ideas for the design early on, the Teversal, Stanton Hill and Skegby Neighbourhood Forum, and of course The Coop who have been super supportive!
We love that public art can do so much more than brighten up a wall – it can tell a story about a place and the people who make it what it is ❤️❤️❤️
