After years of helping women find their wedding dresses, I could probably give you a very long list of bridal shopping advice.
But honestly? Most of it comes down to these three things.
1. Ignore social media.
Yes, Iβm aware of the irony. π
Instagram and Pinterest are brilliant for getting an idea of whatβs out there, but they can also give you a completely unrealistic expectation of what youβre supposed to want.
The dress youβve saved 17 times might do absolutely nothing for you when you put it on.
And the dress you scroll straight past might be the one you donβt want to take off.
Use social media for inspiration. Not instruction.
Thereβs also a lot of conflicting βadviceβ out there.
2. Start your dress journey 12β18 months before your wedding.
Not because you need 18 months to choose a dress.
Because once youβve chosen it, there are ordering times, delivery, fittings and alterations to think about.
Starting early gives you the luxury of enjoying the experience without every decision being dictated by a deadline.
And if you find your dress at that very first appointment? Brilliant. One big thing ticked off your list.
3. Book one boutique at a time.
This is probably the one I wish more brides would listen to.
You do not need to book four boutiques across one weekend just in case.
Start with the boutique you genuinely love the look of. Look at their designers, their style, their reviews and the experience they offer.
Then go to that appointment and give it a proper chance.
Because when you already have another three appointments booked, it becomes very easy to think βbut what if thereβs something better at the next one?β
Suddenly youβre comparing everything, second-guessing yourself and turning something that should be exciting into a mission to see every wedding dress in the county.
You can always book another boutique afterwards.
