My favourite phone calls are from people dicking around after they’ve seen my van parked somewhere or been behind me at lights ….

“Hello is that the erm… Magic Man?”

(Instantly primed my razor sharp wit and charisma)

“Yes it is !!… how can I help”

“I’ve just dropped a hammer on a load of new tiles in a box and was wondering if you could wave your magic wand and put them back together for me!”

( not even a PLEASE !!! )

“Ah sorry mate … what YOU need is a GOOD magician !… I’ve only ever been average at best!!”

“So you can’t help me then ?”

“No mate, sorry…. Would you like Harry Potter’s mobile?….. Even he is a better tiler than you !!”

“Erm”

This just in …

04/09/2026

23 years after I started my magical journey at the Nottingham Guild Of Magicians.I was asked to return to present a lecture.

I spoke about my reasons for learning magic, my audition and acceptance to the most exclusive magic club in the world.. The Magic Circle … my influences, my observations on human psychology and how to approach and entertain in various environments, some ‘do’s and don’ts’ and general advice for all levels of competence.

THEN… I performed some of my ‘go to’ tricks … and deconstructed the methods and patter to a very appreciative audience.

It always hits different when performing for magicians and not ‘Lay People’ as the reactions are different… but I needn’t have worried as we all had plenty of laughs and a great time.

It was great to see lots of familiar faces… Steve McGill, Mark Roberts, Steve Macrow, Freddie Wilkinson ( especially for his on-site feedback that I will be mindful of moving forward ),Shane Miller, ( it was, after all, his idea that I do it in the first place ), Stuart Brown and Dean Grimshaw to name a few.

I would like to thank everyone who attended…

Deborah Bond for her tireless help and support…

and wish everyone a productive return to club affairs after the summer break.
