When we first started Mondo and talked about bringing in guest DJs, Damien was right at the top of our list. He’d already had such a big influence on both of us from our early days of collecting records and learning to DJ, whether it was those legendary Marvel nights or hearing him as part of Deftex. He was someone we genuinely looked up to.
What really stayed with us though, once we got to know him, wasn’t just how good he was behind the decks, it was what a lovely guy he was. He always had time for you. No ego, no pretence, just a genuine love for music. You could end up chatting to him for ages, whether that was in a club, at a gig, or just randomly bumping into him in a record shop somewhere in Norwich. Those long, nerdy conversations about tunes are something we’ll always hold onto.
We feel really lucky to have shared those moments with him, played alongside him and enjoyed a countless number of his sets over the years.
Damien was such a huge part of the Norwich music scene and meant so much to so many, but for us he’ll always be that warm, genuine guy who just loved music and brought people together through it. Totally heartbreaking to lose him.
