Northampton | Opening Soon Artist-led is a structural commitment.

Arts Collective is a contemporary art organisation rooted in Northampton and shaped by artists. Our mission is to support artists at every stage of their careers and to provide free public access to contemporary art. We place artistic practice at the centre of civic life, recognising contemporary art as a vital form of cultural infrastructure shaping public space materially, socially, and politica

lly. Our work spans exhibitions, commissions, archives, studios, residencies, performance, digital platforms, learning activities, and food-led gatherings. We are research-driven and built on long-term relationships. We prioritise sustained engagement and shared authorship, creating stable conditions for artists to develop their practice

The reopening of 24 Guildhall Road marks a new chapter. For the first time, production, exhibition, learning, studios, and community space are brought together within a single institution. This integration enables artistic practice to move from early research through to public presentation and lasting civic impact. Governance, programming, and institutional direction are organised around the long-term sustainability of artistic practice

At 24 Guildhall Road, Arts Collective operates as a civic institution, strengthening cultural life, supporting local talent, and contributing to Northampton’s long-term vitality.

Delighted to see Arts Collective featured in The Spaces following the opening of our new permanent home at 24 Guildhall Road, Northampton.

The feature explores the transformation of a former 1930s civic building into a new artist-led cultural space bringing together exhibitions, studios, archives, learning, performance, and social space under one roof.

Developed in dialogue with architect Sean Griffiths .architect, in partnership with West Northamptonshire Council and PhP Architects, permanent environments have been designed by Giles Round , alongside newly commissioned works by Foday Dumbuya throughout the building. The project reflects a wider ambition to create long-term artistic infrastructure and embedded cultural ecosystems outside metropolitan centres.

Huge thanks to everyone who helped bring this ambitious project into being.

Come and visit us to experience this new approach to community-led art and architecture. We are open Wednesday–Saturday, 11am–5pm.

“Funny, direct, critical” — thank you to The Guardian and Eddy Frankel 🔥⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

House Rules by Rose Finn-Kelcey is now open at Arts Collective — a powerful homecoming exhibition that returns her work to Northampton, tracing her sharp and playful investigations into the invisible systems that shape behaviour, belief, and collective life.

A brilliant recognition of an artist whose work feels more urgent than ever.

The people’s gallery. 💕😎
A full-page architecture review of Arts Collective in this weekend, by Rowan Moore.
The project brings together multiple approaches—described as
“an unmanageably disparate array of approaches into a whole whose diversity is its strength.”
And as
“a rare thing in modern Britain: a cultural space beyond the clutches of bureaucracy.” 💥
Thank you for such a thoughtful reading of the work.

Open now & welcome to everyone :)

FODAY DUMBUYA: THE GATHERING
Now open at Arts Collective
We are incredibly proud to present The Gathering, a major new permanent commission by Foday Dumbuya (co-founder of ) creating a collection of civic furniture for and the Northamptonshire Black History Association Open Studio.
Bringing together design, sculpture, and social space, the works draw on West African traditions of hosting and storytelling, developed through a participatory process with local communities. Dumbuya repositions the languages of personal history, craft, and luxury within a public context—proposing a new model of civic space shaped through gathering, exchange, and shared cultural memory.

The collection is modular, designed to move across rooms and adapt to different occasions—supporting a living, evolving programme of use. We celebrated the opening of our new space with a dinner that was created by and look forward to welcoming our community through many more moments of coming together.
🪑 Bakie Heritage Chair
A sculptural chair shaped by memory. Named after Dumbuya’s grandmother, it brings the intimacy of domestic space into the public realm—where personal histories are held through use and encounter.
Barta Stool 🪘
Inspired by the djembe drum, the stool translates rhythm into form. Wrapped in indigo textile and embroidered with mask motifs, it carries traditions of ceremony, identity, and collective expression.
Nomoli Checkers Board Table ▪️◻️▪️◻️
A functional game table that invites play as a social act. Its sculptural legs draw on Brâncusi forms, transforming play into a shared cultural exchange.
Installed across the building, The Gathering proposes a different model of civic space—one shaped through participation, use, and lived experience.
