I might have gotten slightly carried away buying new toys for the softplay π
But there was actually a bit more thought into them than "they're cute I'll buy them"
When a little one builds a tower and knocks it over for the 400th time, it might look repetitive to usβ¦ but they're learning cause and effect: when I do this, something happens. π§±π₯
When they try to fit a block into a hole, they're problem solving 𧩠When they turn, pick up and stack things, they're developing fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination π And every time something doesn't quite work and they try again, they're learning not to give up πͺ
As a psychologist π§ one thing that's particularly important to me is giving children different ways to play.
Some little ones will immediately climb into the ball pit π€. Some will want to knock towers over. Others might sit on the edge investigating the same sensory toy for ten minutes π
None of those is the βrightβ way to play.
So when I've been choosing new toys for our setups, I've deliberately tried to include different types of play rather than simply adding more stuff.
Althoughβ¦ them being ridiculously cute definitely helped π
