Happy Heavenly Birthday to the OG of a long line of fierce, independent women … my Nan Winnie.
The name behind the brand.
The standard I strive to live up to every time I tie on my apron and sharpen my knives. 🥃
If you ever walked into one of Ron and Winnie’s boozers, you knew straight away who really ran the place.
Nan Winnie was the kind of landlady who could pull a perfect pint, feed half the town, shut down a fight with that look… with my grandad “One Shot Ronnie”stood in the background just in case. 🥊
She was a grafter.
She was loyal.
She didn’t suffer fools and she took zero s**t.
She didn’t do fuss, she did hard work.
Big portions and strong whisky in a beautifully polished crystal glass.
She was the OG of a long line of fierce women, and believe me she set the standard very bloody high.
There’s a photo of her and my Grandad Ronnie that I love — the way my Nan Winnie looked at Ronnie said everything. That quiet little look that said “that’s my person.”
As a wedding caterer, I often think about that photo. Because if every bride looked at her husband the way my Nan Winnie looked at Ronnie, then everything would be right in the world.
And sure there were fireworks. Legendary fireworks.
But there was respect. There was loyalty.
They raised a family and ran businesses together, they put the time in!
The original power couple.
When I named my business Winnie’s Catering, it wasn’t just a name .. it was my way of carrying a piece of her forward into everything I do, she’s behind me keeping me on my toes!
Every wedding we cater.
Every event we cook for.
Every table we set.
I like to think that every time someone books Winnie’s Catering, she’s somewhere up there raising a glass of Bell’s and smiling, watching the crazy little business that grew from her name.
Happy Birthday Nan.
The queen.
The standard.
The legend behind Winnie’s Catering. ❤️🥃
