Imagine being a young saxophonist and you get to have a masterclass with a superstar!

Well, that's exactly what happened during the Festival. Several talented players from the area took part in a free masterclass with the one and only Jess Gillam.

We couldn't be more grateful to Jess for how generous she was with her time, and we're sure that these young players took home valuable learning and inspiration that will help them develop their own musicianship for years to come.

Newbury Spring Festival gets no statutory funding, so it's no exaggeration to say that free education events like this are only made possible through the generous support of Friends and Sponsors. Times have never been more challenging for the arts, and we'd love to reach more young people in the future - particularly since cuts to music education continue to be an issue. If you are able to join us as a Friend, or would like to have a chat about sponsoring our education work, we'd love to hear from you ❤️

It was great to welcome back the MZ Duo for their wonderful concert at Donnington Priory Dreweatts 1759 during the Festival, after playing in our lunchtime concert series a few years ago. We so enjoyed their varied programme of music, and plenty of audience members left with the duo's album!

It was lovely to host Soul Sanctuary Gospel Choir in the Market Place, right outside the Corn Exchange Newbury (where they performed later that day) during the Festival. They gave a wonderful pop-up performance that drew quite the crowd!

Ensemble Renard performed at our lunchtime concert series this year, and we really enjoyed their tour through some of their favourite wind quintet repertoire.

Held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, the lunchtime concerts showcase some of the best emerging artists in chamber music and jazz for audiences in Newbury to enjoy.

Throwback to our opening night! Ben Goldscheider performed the ever-popular Mozart Horn Concerto No.4, and a new work Sirens by GRAMMY-nominated composer Anna Clyne.

The concert opened with London Mozart Players performing Elgar’s ever-popular Introduction & Allegro under the baton of Jonathan Bloxham, and after the interval Mendelssohn’s Symphony No.1 sparkled in their hands!

Throwback to The Sixteen's choral pilgrimage concert at Douai Abbey during the Festival! We were wowed by their beautiful polyphony as they explored majestic music from the Spanish Renaissance alongside spellbinding works from James MacMillan and Kerensa Briggs.

We had such a wonderful evening with Jess Gillam and her trio at the Corn Exchange Newbury.

From Jazz influences with music by composers such Phil Woods, Sidney Bechet, Barbara Thompson and Rudy Weideoft, to Baroque energy from Corelli to joyous Gershwin and shades of folk, the programme had something for everyone to enjoy.
