What can I say about me... well I started cooking when I was very young, in fact I think I first learnt to cook rice and dhal when I was about 6 in miniature clay pots someone bought me as a gift, on a fire in the garden. Both my parents were Dutch Sri Lankan and both were prolific cooks. Not a day went by without one or other of them cooking up something experimental or traditional (and of course spending a lot of time telling the other one what they could do better!). I have long held a dream of starting a food business but it was not until late last year that I found myself in the position of being able to do so and it took quite some months of thought and encouragement to get here. The name "The Curry Pincher" is derived from the Sri Lankan word for curry leaves, "Karapincha". My food is personal to me, and I'm really looking forward to sharing that with you.

A cookery experience with us, is so much more than just a cookery lesson. It's a day of time set aside just for you, an excuse to catch up properly with family and friends, a chance to take a time out from your busy life. You will learn about a very different cuisine and culture, you will sample foods you haven't eaten before, you will get very well fed. Mangosteen is a wonderful South East Asian fruit that is hard to find over here but grows in Sri Lanka. Trees take up to 10 years to bear fruit, producing a hard dark purple shell and soft white fruit within. It has a sweet and very slightly sour taste. One of my favourites.

The Open Table was created to bring local business people together without the stuffy networking, hard sells or awkward pitches.

It’s about conversation, connection, collaboration and community. Getting to know the people behind local businesses, sharing ideas, helping one another and building relationships that are genuinely useful to everyone around the table.

And the clue really is in the name…
