Sometimes you don't know what a small gesture means until much later.
A few weeks ago, a group of ladies from the police station came into Butty for lunch. One of them, Rhian, said she'd had a rough day.
I quietly put a free Butty voucher in her bag. No strings attached. Random act of kindness.
And honestly, I hadn't forgotten about it, I just assumed they didn't enjoy their lunch.
Until Rhian walked back into Butty today.
She gave me the voucher back.
She told me she'd really appreciated the gesture, but she'd rather support a small local business and pay for her sandwich.
That genuinely made my day.
Running a small business can be hard. Some days are brilliant, some days are really bloody tough, and sometimes you wonder whether all the effort is worth it.
Then someone does something like that.
It's not about a £7 sandwich. It's about people, relationships and the little things that happen when you're part of a community.
