Sharing a photo of me this World Photography Day, from our trip earlier this year that took in the Perito Moreno Glacier in Patagonia.

An incredible spot to pause and enjoy a cuppa.

I take lots of photos when I’m travelling, mostly because I want the memories.

Not necessarily the perfect photo, but something that will take me back to a moment, a place and a feeling.

This one does that.

Looking at it now, I can remember the scale of the glacier, the incredible blue of the ice, and the breathtaking boardwalk we went on to get the closest I’ve ever been to a glacier.

That’s what I love about travel photos. Years later, they can take you straight back there.

We were swapping LinkedIn for real life last week.

Nine LinkedIn friends joined me for an afternoon tea and it was just as lovely as I hoped it would be.

Some of us had met before, some hadn’t, and there was plenty of conversation, laughter, tea, and of course, cake.

Isn’t it great that connections that are online can move to IRL.

It’s special to be able to sit around a table together and get to know the people behind the profiles.

And we’re already talking about doing it again… this time with a Christmas lunch.

More on that another time.

Carefully chosen gifts can have a long shelf life.

Earlier this week I welcomed a mother and daughter for a scone-making and paired tea tasting experience.

It was bought it as a Christmas gift - so it became a belated Merry Christmas and a very timely Happy Afternoon Tea Week!

We made different flavoured scones, tasted teas chosen to pair with them, and most importantly, had a lovely couple of hours together.

Isn’t it fab that an experience like this can sit on a shelf for a while and then turn into something truly valuable.

Time together.

And no better week to do it than this.

When was the last time you got together with friends in person?

Cue cringe. It’s probably longer than you thought, right?

I was messaging with my friend Susan yesterday. We spent a wonderful weekend together in Milan back in May.

And we realised we haven’t actually seen each other since.

We swap messages. We like each other’s posts. We promise to catch up soon.

Are we keeping in touch, or are we just keeping up?

Nothing beats sitting around a table, sharing stories and spending time together.

That’s exactly what my private tea tasting experiences are all about.

They give friends a reason to put a date in the diary, gather around a table and create new memories over a pot of tea… or three.

So let’s ditch the cringe.

You don’t need to know anything about tea to come to Tea Social.

In fact, one of the guests at my last Tea Social hadn’t had a hot drink in 15 years.

So why did he come?

Curiosity.

He wanted to see what tea could offer and spend a Sunday morning meeting new people.

That’s all I ask of anyone who comes along - bring your curiosity.

Tea lovers, tea beginners and even tea sceptics are all welcome.

Last week was my busiest of the year with a Tea Social last Sunday morning, a Veterans Tribe Scotland Wellbeing event on Thursday and then a private tea tasting on Saturday afternoon.

I definitely celebrated with a day of rest yesterday!

As I do more of these events, they’re each beginning to develop their own signature style.

Tea Social is an individually ticketed gathering in the gorgeous PekoeTea Edinburgh studio, with a bright and relaxed atmosphere that’s great for meeting new people.

I’ve been working with Veterans Tribe Scotland for 4 years now, so we’re a well established group who enjoy tasting different teas each time we meet and have a lot of fun pairing them with different cakes and biscuits.

At a private tea tasting, I’m usually the stranger amongst friends who gather - often once in a blue moon - and catch up on all sorts of news and happenings for a few hours.

All very different groups with different conversations and different reasons for being there.

Tea as the reason for gathering.

It doesn’t dominate but it does create space for everyone to connect, slow down, laugh, share stories and enjoy being together.

That’s why I say I’m not in the tea business.

I’m in the events business.

I create tea tasting experiences, and every group makes them their own.

A tea tasting isn’t all about learning to identify flavours.

I mean, yes, we do that.

But so much more happens around the table.

There are questions. Stories. Fun and laughter. And almost always that moment when someone says, “I’ve never noticed that before.”

Tea gives us something to focus on, but it’s the conversation that people remember.

Yesterday’s tasting with Veterans Tribe was another reminder of that.

If you bring people together -whether that’s a community group, charity, membership organisation or team - you’ll know that the best events aren’t just well attended. They’re the ones where people genuinely connect.

I’m always happy to chat with organisers who are looking for a different way to spark conversation and create that kind of connection.
