🌸 8 YEARS OF COLOURS 🌸

Today marks 8 years since I took over Colours Florists — and honestly, where has the time gone?!

There have been flowers (obviously!), weddings, funerals, birthdays, workshops, Christmas chaos, Mothers Day madness, early mornings, late nights, plenty of laughs… and probably a few tears along the way too!

But most importantly, there have been YOU.

The customers who have trusted me with their flowers for the biggest moments in their lives.
The ones who pop in just for a chat.
The ones who recommend me to friends.
The ones who like, comment and share my posts.
And the ones who simply buy a bunch of flowers because they know it will make someone smile.

Every single order, no matter how big or small, has helped keep my little independent flower shop going — and I genuinely couldn’t do it without you. ❤️

Running your own business isn’t always easy, but 8 years in, I still absolutely love what I do. 🌿

So today I’m raising a (probably flower-themed 😉) glass to 8 years of Colours Florists…

It’s the little details that can make all the difference.

I absolutely love making buttonholes. There’s something rather lovely about working on such a tiny scale — choosing the flowers, adding a little foliage and carefully putting everything together so it feels just right.

They might be small, but they’re such an important part of the finished look. 🤍

And let’s be honest… who doesn’t love a tiny bit of floral loveliness pinned to their outfit?!

Joining the bandwagon with this one because I was born in the 80’s, so I feel like I have every right to ask…

What if I’d been a florist back in the 80s? 😂

Big hair ✔️
Big earrings ✔️
Bright colours ✔️
Questionable fashion choices ✔️
Flowers? ABSOLUTELY. 🌸

I’m pretty sure 80s florist me would have been making huge, fabulous bouquets while blasting Wham! and using approximately an entire can of hairspray before opening the shop. 😂

Fast forward 40+ years and I’m still here making flowers… although the hair is considerably less impressive!

🇬🇧 BRITISH FLOWERS WEEK 🇬🇧

This week is British Flowers Week, and I’ll be celebrating by filling the shop with a beautiful selection of seasonal British-grown blooms.

There’s something rather special about flowers grown right here in the UK. Freshly cut, full of character, wonderfully scented, and grown by passionate flower farmers who work with the seasons rather than against them.

From delicate sweet peas and romantic garden roses to fragrant stocks, sweet Williams and other seasonal treasures, I’ll be supporting British growers and showcasing just how beautiful home-grown flowers can be.

Choosing British flowers doesn’t just mean fewer flower miles — it means supporting local growers, embracing the seasons, and enjoying blooms that are often packed with scent and natural beauty.

Keep an eye on my stories this week as I’ll be sharing what’s arriving, introducing some of the growers behind the flowers, and showing you what’s available in the shop.

It’s in the little details ✨

Whilst the bouquets and larger arrangements often steal the spotlight, it’s the little details that quietly tie everything together.

For Beth & Jordan’s early May wedding, I created the buttonholes and corsages using delicate spring flowers chosen to complement their beautifully illustrated order of service. Think cheerful narcissi, pale blue tweedia, tulips and soft eucalyptus — a perfect reflection of the season.

What you might not realise is that each flower head was individually wired by hand. Several hours were spent in front of the telly carefully wiring and taping every tiny bloom to ensure they were wedding-day ready and stayed looking their best from “I do” to the last dance.

The finished result? Tiny floral details that perfectly echoed the couple’s wedding stationery and brought the whole look together beautifully. 🌼💙

Sometimes the smallest flowers require the biggest investment of time.
