The Vale

The Vale In the foothills of the Peak District, The Vale is a former textile mill converted to a state-of-the-art venue for all kinds of creative happenings.

If it’s live performance you’re after, The Vale hosts a variety of music, theatre, dance, and cinema throughout the year. This space is also used by our resident Carnival arts organisations to develop new productions and artists as part of our Northern Carnival Centre for Excellence. Our mixed-use and specialist studios are also a hit with visual artists. All our spaces are available for hire and we would love to welcome you to our growing family of creatives that call The Vale home.

Meet Solar Bear, a stunning, hand‑painted sculpture created for this year’s Dartford Bear Hunt in support of Ellenor Hospice. He was brought to life right here at The Vale by talented young artist Jessie Bond, who first discovered us through our Creative Careers programme, and now volunteers with our team.

With support from ITRM Ltd, the project has connected Jessie with local groups and deepened her sense of community, something we’re proud to champion through our creative and wellbeing programmes.

“This opportunity has allowed me to meet the team behind the scenes of The Vale and see the impact they have on connecting local families in so many different ways. The Vale really is the heart of Mossley!”

Solar Bear will be on display across Dartford and Gravesend from 17 July to 13 September before being auctioned to raise funds for Ellenor hospice.

Funding Success for The Vale’s Creative Community!

We're thrilled to announce that Friends of the Vale has secured a National Lottery Awards for All grant - brilliant news that helps sustain Crafty Saturdays, as well as the Our Space garden project, Sunday Sessions and equipment for Knights of The Vale.

We're excited to announce our special guest for the next Sunday Sessions is Bay Bryan!

Originally from the Rockies of Colorado, Bay Bryan is a singer-songwriter and theatre artist based in Manchester whose concept album The Meadow (2023) earned praise from the likes of BBC Radio 2’s Mark Radcliffe and DJ Luke Una, and led to performances at The Jazz Cafe, Manchester International Festival, Lunchtime at Bridgewater Hall and beyond.

Known for his transportive, story-driven songs and cabaret-like flair, Bay is currently working on his second concept album BAYARD—a kaleidoscopic soul-infused follow-up influenced by a wide range of artists like Amy Winehouse, Anaïs Mitchell, Labi Siffre and Stevie Wonder.
