A bit of honesty...
I've spoken to a couple of people recently, who've commented how much The Flower Hut has taken off and then have been taken back when I say that I'm so pleased with how it's going but it's really hard to make a profit this early on.
I think a lot of it comes from social media making it look great. You see pop ups, markets, bouquets going out etc and that is all true. I would never put anything up that's not true.
However, all the activity doesn't necessarily make money right now! There are times when I sell very little at pop ups, when ordering in for a bouquet leaves a loss because I don't sell the other stock and a delivery takes me twice as long because I get lost or the address isn't quite right
Building a brand people trust, learning about ordering and pricing, deciding which opportunities to take and trying to balance quality Vs cost are all new things for me and I'm very much learning on the job. There is the odd day where it feels like too much but most days I love it. I love the buzz whenever I get an order and I adore working with flowers so it's worth it.
I am so grateful for every customer, recommendation and review because trust me, this early it all matters!
I hope this is an encouragement to any other small businesses out there that are building something, keep going, it takes time but we'll get there 🩷
