Dear Boy.
We didn't know who you'd be
and neither did we care.
We just knew that you were ours,
with a future we could share.

We didn't know that when you cried,
because something wasn't right,
that you weren't being awkward
and you were filled with fright.

We didn't know that as you grew,
that we would also grow,
that you would show us a vision,
that before we did not know.

We didn't know about textured food,
or gave its colours any thought.
We just went around oblivious,
until you came and taught.

We didn't know that you would see
a different piece of bread,
and if it wasn't cut just right
then your day was full of dread.

We didn't know what routine meant,
or the damage if it got broken,
but we learnt to follow it,
through the words unspoken.

We didn't know that some fabrics,
were there to spoil your day,
You didn't know about our tears
when we turned away.

We didn't know, and we still don't,
what the world looks like to you.
But one thing we all agree on is
we will keep learning until we do.
