VOCES8 Records is delighted to release the final single from Penelope Appleyard's EP, celebrating Jane Austen's 250th anniversary.

'Ode to Pity' is a song by Donna McKevitt for voice & square piano, commissioned by Penelope for the special anniversary. Written by Austen at 17, the poem mixes elegance with playful parody. The music draws on the folk sounds Austen knew, blending beauty, wit & simplicity. A rare setting of her poetry — and possibly the first new work for square piano!
