GET YOUR READING GLASSESSSS 👓😂
Today’s memory 🥰🎤 — Scarborough Festival, 2019.
There’s poor old me, happily donating my time singing at a Macmillan charity festival. 😂❤️
2019 was such a different time for me. Alongside my music, I was also running my own childcare business. I had been doing some work for someone and gave two sessions completely free. I then signed a 12-week contract, thinking looking after 15–20 children sounded like a great opportunity! 😂
Unfortunately, it didn’t work out, so I decided not to continue. The situation ended up becoming a legal dispute, and even the legal team seemed confused because I hadn’t actually started the contracted 12 weeks of work — but unfortunately, I had signed the contract and the terms were there.
She initially wanted £240 from me and then tried to claim even more for things like her time and correspondence. In the end, she was awarded considerably less than she had originally asked for.
But what I found particularly strange was how much my singing was brought into the letters and court case. 🤔😂
Apparently I was travelling all over the country singing and earning loads of money…
Meanwhile, there’s me singing for FREE at charity festivals like this one! 😂
I’d even been told it was “unprofessional” when, while doing the free sessions, I gave out a few flyers for my new song Unconditional Love.
I remember thinking… I'm helping you for free and promoting my own song — it's hardly competing with your fitness class! 😂
It taught me a HUGE lesson about contracts, boundaries and trusting my gut.
READ THE TERMS, GUYS! 😂📄
And sometimes people think you don't know what they're like, or that you don't see what's really going on… trust me, I usually see far more than I say. 😂
It took me a while to learn that not every situation needs a reaction. Sometimes you take the lesson, walk away and do better next time.
Took me a while… but I'm pretty much invincible now. ❤️✨
And strangely enough, Shanine & Shane were at this one too! 😆 They definitely were my soul friends in Plymouth. ❤️
Their loss. My lesson. 🥰 xx
