Carrying on with my British Flowers Week!

Apologies for all the posts!!

Did you know that choosing locally grown flowers is one of the absolute best ways to give our local wildlife a boost?
I dont use chemicals or sprays and yes, that includes those internet-famous "homemade remedies" which can actually do more harm than good! I let nature take its course. I am very much rewarded with regular visits of some lovely birds, lots nest in my hedge and I've a huge population dragonfly this year.

Just incase you are reading this overlong post 🤣.... I'm nearly finished on the dahlia digging. Everything is prepped and ready to go - I just hope I can get things planted before the heat next week!

Remember that not only do I offer gift bouquets, I also supply buckets of flowers for diy events! Any questions please send me a message!

Why do British grown flowers look different to those you find in a supermarket?

Mass imported flowers are bred for the global supply chain. They are selected for rigid stems, thick petals, and the ability to survive travel in refrigerated shipping containers. Many of those stems are originally flown into the Netherlands from Africa and South America before being driven across to the UK.

British grown blooms offer a completely different experience. We grow with the seasons!
In Spring I have ranunculus and daffodils, early summer comes the frothy ammi and the canterbury bells and then I have my dahlias. 🌸🥰
Every month I have something different available to cut and come winter we celebrate evergreen foliages and seed heads.
But I am mostly here for the dahlias 🌸 😍desperately still planting in the last few!! My husband would say I don't think about anything else 🤣😬
What is your favourite flower?

What a wonderful evening with the lovely ladies at Bowerhill last night! 🌸✨

With in full swing, it was the perfect time to chat about British Flowers and what interesting stems are available for us to cut.

The talk covered sustainable blooms and why choosing "grown, not flown" flowers matters so much for our environment. 🌍🐝 How shifting our focus to seasonal, British-grown stems slashes flower transport miles and supports your local grower - thats me if you live in Melksham 😂.
For everyone who asked last night, here are my top three tips for caring for your British stems at home to make them last.
🌸Clean water is key: Wash your vase thoroughly before use. Change it regularly
🌸The diagonal cut: Snipping stems at a 45-degree angle helps them drink efficiently.
🌸Keep them cool! Place arrangements away from direct sun and ripening fruit.

Thank you so much to the Bowerhill group for having me and if you belong to a group that would like a "flowery chat" please get in touch!
Im also taking orders for gift bouquets and also have my small bunches available most days. If the wheelbarrow is empty, send me a text!

My very first dahlia of the year has officially arrived! 🌸✨ She is rather special, isn’t she?

🌸 With this week being British Flower Week, it feels like the perfect time to celebrate these beauties. Did you know you’ll rarely find dahlias on supermarket shelves? Their petals are incredibly delicate and can easily bruise in transit.

By supporting your local British Flower grower you get to enjoy perfection that massive supply chains just can't deliver.

British Flowers Week
A week to celebrate all those who grow and work with British flowers ☺️
British-grown flowers offer many benefits:
🌸 They are fresh – often cut just a day before they reach you.
🌸 They are grown for scent as well as appearance – bringing natural fragrance as well as beauty.
🌸 They support biodiversity – helping to boost pollinators and encourage a richer natural environment.
🌸 They are a more sustainable choice – over 90% of flowers sold in the UK are imported, many of them flown in, carrying significant environmental costs.
🌸 They are seasonal – each week brings something different as flowers are cut at their natural peak, reflecting the changing beauty of the British growing season.
By choosing British-grown flowers, you're supporting local growers, reducing environmental impact, and enjoying fresher, more fragrant blooms.

Many of you know my favourite has to be the dahlias - so I'll post a few photos this week. And hopefully we will see them in the buckets soon!

I'm cutting lots of flowers at the moment but unfortunately the wheelbarrow is getting emptied as soon as I put them out and I have lots of orders - good for me, not so for you 😜🤣 I've still got a few more dahlias to plant out - hoping for a bumper crop this year, so please keep your eyes on the buckets! Im hoping to be swimming in dahlias... just a few more weeks to go 😂 But they are looking promising, whilst the weather we have had the last few days may not be what you want - the flowers are looking happier!
Chamomile and feverfew cut this morning.

Love it when I get some fab customer photos - weekly office flowers for a lovely local business. Unfortunately this was from a couple of weeks ago now and last weekend saw the last of the peonies until next year!

Stunning new flowers for our office from Shurnhold Flowers !

There were some out on the road in the wheelbarrow today.... so keep an eye out next time you're passing.

Freshly cut from the garden, so different every time, but ALWAYS gorgeous!

I dont often get reviews or photos sent back of flowers I've grown, so I was especially thrilled with this.
